VSP4. Are fade in/fade out actions adjustable?

Post by Carroll »

I have inserted a .wav file I split from another video, to use as a background sound at the first and end of my project while the credits come up. I want the sound file to fade in and fade out at start and finish. The 2 fade in/out buttons work, but, fading seems to go from 0 -60mph in a .5 seconds. I have spent sometime searching the help files but, have come up empty for any further explanation of adjusting fades.

So, is there away of stretching the fading at each end of the file?

What have you got set in Settings > Preferences > Edit for the default audio fade in/out? By default it is set at 1 second...

have a look at this short video Carroll - it shows changes to the video sound - but you can use exactly the same procedure on the music track.

note that in the last bit I am demonstrating that you will not hear the fade in 'clip' mode but will in 'project' mode.

Thank you guys for your replies

Brian

I viewed the YouTube video for working with sound. I used it successfully.

The setting/preference/edit/Audio fade box is set at 1 sec. Now that I have used the Sound Mix to fade the .wav file, do I have to change anything in the Settings/Preferences/Edit/Audio default fade box?

I obviously didn't use the right search words or in reading the explanations for each item under Audio in the help files since I didn't even come close to an explanation of how to change the fade durations.

Thank you for your help guys. It is appreciated.

No -- not unless you just want to apply the automatic fades to other clips...

The sound mixer and Audio box settings must be two separate entities are they not?

Using the sound mixer I set a different length of fade at each end of the file. Am I correct in thinking that with the audio box setting whatever number of seconds I fill in, will be applied equally to both ends?

Also, if I change the audio box number in preferences, for a new project, will that setting be automatically applied to every video clip's sound track in the project plus any added audio file?

Settings you make in Preferences only affect clips which you insert after you make the change - changing preferences does not affect clips already in the timeline - and yes preferences affect both in and out..
