Countour/outline on an image

Post by debelik »

Hi, I want to add a contour/outline on an image.
I do this: I use the magic wand tool to cut the image of the person, then I paste it on a new image (with the background orange like in the file attached).
To add the board to the image I use the "shadow" but I want that the outline/board will be of the same dimension (as you can see in the other image attached of the train Lima).
I'm using Photimpact x3 (download today a try version) but I use also an edition of about 2 years ago.
I hope to have well explained the problem, thanks for your help.

I understand you to removing the image with the magic wand then I sort of get lost. What is the board and what has the shadow got to do with it?

Thanks for your answer trueblue.
If you see the image (the box of train Lima with the outline white) you will understand well what I want to obtain.
I want to add to the image the outline white you see: the outline will be uniform around the image (instead if I use the shadow the outline is not uniform around the image, as you can se in the image with the person on the orange background).
Excuse for my english, I hope to have well explained,
thanks again for your help.

If you see on www.toyx.it the image n. 2 of the slideshow (the red car) I want to add the white outline around the car. Thanks

Trueblue -- as I understand it, all he wants to do is put a reduced copy of the second image (the toy train) into the white patch on the first (orange) photo, to make it look as though the guy is carrying the car/toy. Personally, I have no idea at all how to do it in P, but I think that is what he is after... Moreover, I think it is the upper image of the train -- the one with a small outline in white -- rather than the bigger version of the same towards the bottom of the image...

Ken, I'm not sure he/she wants to do that, it seems more like adding a white line around an object, ie: red train or red car.

It's still a little unclear, but if you want to add a white outline like the ones in the image, I would use the Shadow. It does work quite well.
If you look at the images on the webpage, the edges are slightly fuzzy, using shadow would do this.

1. Right click on the object, select Shadow from the menu

2. Tick the box and select the 5th button with the shadow all around.

3. Increase the shadow size.

4. Adjust the transparency until the white outline is how you want it.

5. Right click on the image and select Split Shadow from the menu.

6. You can now adjust the shadow and the image independently.

If this is not what you want, and you wish to place the toy within the white area of the man's arm please let me know. This is a little more complicated to explain but doable.

I may suggest you join the Beginner's Workshop for PhotoImpact. It is free and you will learn all aspects of PhotoImpact. I highly recommend it.

I have posted an image with an outline.
