Am I doing something wrong? When I save a picture it goes from 6mb to 700kb. Is this normal or do I need to do something different and does it effect the picture quality when printing?

You have not given much information. I will presume you are saving a full size jpg which originally was about 6 Mb.
When you do Save As you get a dialog box and with Jpeg chosen as the save type, you will see an Options button bottom right. Clicking on that allows you to choose the amount of compression. You probably have yours set at 20. If you want the size unchanged much choose about 3 and if you want a good save for internet sending try 90 or 85.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

I've set the "save as" option as suggested but I want the autosave to be higher too.

Using Adjust mod,e the autosave changes images that were 6+MB to <2MB and I would like this to be much higher

please advise where this setting can be saved??
