Saving 'extracted' clips all at once...

Ok, and the other feature I think Ulead really needs to add is the ability to save all the extracted video segments (when you choose the 'extract video' option that allows you to extract multiple segments from one clip) in one step!

Right now...after you are finished extracting all the video segments from a given video clip...you get the option to save the extracted video. BUT...Video Studio only lets you save one at a time!

Would be very nice if I could choose a 'save all extracted video segments' option to do this in one step instead of having to save each segment individually.

I was really surprised to see that the ability to save all of the extracted segments in one step was not possible.

Thank you,

When you hit F6 for "Preferences" you will see the location you select
as the "Working Folder".
When you import a disk the Mpeg2 files are copied from the dvd to
the "Working Folder" directory.
All the Mpeg2 (video clips) will be in this directory.
All you have to do is save the project. The files aren't deleted when
you exit the program. They are on the harddrive under the working folder.

If you open the directory before importing in a separate window, then import the dvd you will be able to see the files being copied.
Hit the F5 key to refresh the screen. <ALT + TAB> to cycle through the
open windows programs.

To import more than 1 clip at a time "Click on the 1st clip to highlight it".
Then holding down the <CTRL> key select the other clips with the mouse.
You can also highlight the 1st clip and then hit <CTRL + A> to highlight
all the clips.

Hope this helps,
MD

MD...thanks for the help but I don't think we are talking about the same thing.

There is a feature that lets you 'extract' video clips from a video file (for example...a 30 minute AVI video file) that you've already imported from a video source device like a mini-DV camcorder, etc.

Once you've captured the video and saved it as a file (AVI for example)...you can then add the video file to your timeline and from there, you have a feature called 'Extract Video' that lets you do a 'batch' type of extraction.

It is a very useful tool for me since I am creating 30 second video clips from a 30 minute or so video file.

But, once you are done creating the clips and click 'OK'...all the video clips are then transferred to the storyline and the original video file (30 minute file) is removed.

From there, you have the option of saving each clip as a separate video file (30 second video clip).

My problem is, Video Studio does not let you save all the clips at once by either clicking an option labled 'save all extracted video clips' (or something similar to that) or highlighting all the clips using your shift key.

Instead, you have to highlight each one individually and then click 'save extracted video clip'. You have to repeat the same save process for each clip.

This is one of those 'why didn't they include this obvious feature/function' type of thing...?

Oh well...I'm able to get the job done but I would love to be able to simply click an option and be done with it in one step...seems to be a very logical and intuitive feature overlooked by Ulead.

Andrew,
In VS8 there is a "Split by Scene" that will divide a clip into separate scenes. Is that what you mean?

This feature automatically creates separate "virtual" video clips that are simply pointers to positions in your original video file. These pointers are stored in your project file (.vsp) and that is what you are saving.

Andrew

Once you have made the 30 sec mpeg 2 video clips, i assume you have a few (10--20--more).

What do you do with them now?
Are you putting them back together to create a larger video movie?

automatic extraction and BATCH SAVE of multiple clips

I think I understand what you're trying to do, and unfortunately, I can't pull off the same thing. I have 1 or 100 videos that I'd like to apply the ANTI-SHAKE filter to each one, then batch save the 100 videos preconfigured with the template (which saves as avi and video only). I'm doing this process manually but I wish to automate it, but I also have your issue where I want to save multiple cuts in 1 video as separate saved files, not 1 file that lumps all the segments together. I can't pull this off without creating a project for each clip (very time consuming). If you get the answer, please someone help a bro out. thanks.
