Hi,
When I am editing clips and play them, the first second plays, then the vision freezes. The control bar continues across the program and the sound continues, only the picture freezes. Thus I can't judge where to cut.
This is a new computer:
Windows 8 Pro X64,
Gigabyte EP45 DS3 M'board,
2.85 Intel Quad core with
2GB Hard drive,
8GB RAM,
VidStudio X5.
The video was taken on my Canon XA10 HD camcorder.
HD footage internally copied to Standard Play on 32GB SanDisk Extreme card and input to computer via card reader and USB2 (front of computer).
On my old Win7 computer I had some problem with jerkiness in the final product, but it was tolerable.
This however, is not.
I have downloaded X5 Patch 1.
Video is MPEG2,
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25fps, variable frame rate.
PAL system
I hope someone can help me iron out this problem.
Happy New Year.

Re: Clips freeze when playing while editing in X5
Nice camera!!
You give mpeg-2 video properties, which I assume are really your output properties. But what are the exact properties of the original AVCHD video you downloaded from the camera? (Right clip an original clip and copy the Properties here please.)
I know your camera records AVCHD at up to 24 Mbps, but try as I might, I cannot find out whether or not it also films at 50 full frames per second, rather than 25 fps (or 50 interleaved frames per second). May be Properties will tell us.

Re: Clips freeze when playing while editing in X5
Thanks Ken.
When I R-click & properties on the clip in edit mode it comes up with
Pal Dvd
Video M{EG2 VidEO Upper field first
Frames 576
Attributes 24 bits 720 x 576 16:9
Frame Rate 25.000 fps
Data Rate Variable (Max 92000 kbps)
Audio Dolby Digital Audio
Sample 1,105,920 samples
Attributes 48,000 Hz
Layer None
Bit Rate 256 kbps
I have found the clips on the camera and their properties are below:
Frame Width 1440, height 1080
Data rate 6217 kbps
Total Bitrate 6473 kbps
Frame rate 25 fps
Audio bitrate 256
Channels 2
Sample rate 48000
While downloading, I did click YES to a popup box that asked me if I wanted to change some format to make smart render possible.
I am about to try to download again, this time directly from the internal memory, in case there was a conflict with the SanDisc card or the card reader.
Have just tried this and X5 tells me there is no Video Capture Driver installed. There wasn't one in the XA10 box.
Where do I get one?

Re: Clips freeze when playing while editing in X5
I have downloaded the HD camera files in HD direct to my computer in an AVCHD Folder under My Video. I used the Canon USB cable.
I then accessed them in My Video from X5 and they came across OK.
Single scenes showed smoothly on the screen.
I have now done some rough editing (20 mins of program) and it seems OK in edit mode.
However now when I play back from the start, there is a lot of screen stutter. Sound is fine but the picture stutters. It is as if every 3rd or 4th frame is displayed and the rest not. Stroboscopic effect.
I DO hope this will disappear in rendering, which I will try tomorrow.
I presume that I don't have enough RAM, so will probably double it to 16 GB during the week if that is so.
What do you guys think?

Re: Clips freeze when playing while editing in X5
Have you enabled "Smart Proxy"
"Settings >> Smart Proxy manager >> enable Smart Proxy" - this produces a low quality copy of the video while editing - but uses the full quality video to make the final output - usually helps while editing - but does take a number of minutes to run when you first select a clip - give it time.
