VideoStudio Pro x5 won't open

Post by BluDragon »

I used the program before without an issue; however, I received a nasty virus and it crashed my computer. I finally clean it out and checked to make sure it is gone, and not a single issue appear. I try opening the program, VideoStudio Pro x5, after unable to do so due to the virus, and this happened.

Notice the program does open, but I can't use it unless I get rid of those three things. However, when I did, the program closed it self. Do I need to re-install the program or is there something I can do real quick to solve it? Thanks for the help!

It is quite possible that when your computer crashed it damaged some hidden files on your computer which are required by VideoStudio - these files cannot be repaired by a normal un-install then re-install and it may be necessary for you to do what is known as a full manual removal followed by clean re-install.

So the first thing I would suggest is you first try a normal un-install using the Windows Add/Remove facility then re-install - if that solves the problem then very good - but if it does not you must do a manual un-install following this procedure :- http://tinyurl.com/bkhfhcn

then try re-installing again

Thank you for answering.

I did the simple uninstall-reinstall, but it didn't work. So I follow the instruction on the link with the registry, and everything works out until... The picture happened. I'm back to square one. :(

I ran into the same problem and did the manual uninstallation. I reinstalled Pro X5 but got the same errors. By coincidence I noticed this message on corel.force.com:

And to my surprise this solved the issue for me!!

I do not have the browser, so that didn't work. I try what you said with regedit again. Well... Everything went smooth, and I don't have those dasterious warning pop-ups. Instead, it just won't plain open. Haha. That's a positive step.

Hey,

I've also encountered this problem and fortunately enough I was able to solve it.

A few things to know about the dump file error.
- it just logs the date and time of the error - 20130104_091029 = year 2013 month 01 day 04 hour 09 minute 10 seconds 29

This is mainly caused by your system having an adware installed related to your browser. Whether it's IE, Firefox, Chrome etc. The most common adware that hijacks your browsers is Babylon toolbar and all its related features/partners.

Simpy download any adware cleaning software. Install it - Run it - Restart PC/Laptop - Launch browser to see if the changes have been made if not do this again in Safe Mode.

Relaunch Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 and there you go, works just fine!

I downloaded VS Pro x5 from Corel's website in South Africa last in June 2012, so I do not have the software on a disc to reload.

Since downloading the software, I have imported a very large volume of HD video footage shot on two vacations abroad for editing and I am only 50% done. Now that I cannot open VS Pro x5 due to this DMP file popping up on my screen, from the advice shared in this thread I would like to know if I am going to lose these video files. I am an amateur video editor with about +10 years experience and whilst I know how to edit quite well, I am not clued up on computer operating systems. I therefore do not know if the video folders containing edited & part edited video footage will be lost when say, running adware removal software, or reloading VS Pro x5, etc. Unfortunately I only have about 75% of the original unedited footage backed up on external discs, so I am stressed out right now.

I could not find a telephone number for Corel in South Africa on their website. I need to find out how I get to download the program again if needed. I am sorry that I never bought the software at a store - at least I would have been able to download my VS Pro x5 again.

Much appreciated.

Lyonello
