Hello,
I was wondering if there is a way to copy tracks (video, overlay, audio) from an old project into a new project.
I have tried copy them and paste them but that is not possible.
An other solution could be to make a video file of the "old project" and import that on the video track in the new project.
But I'm currious if i will loose some quality on that way.
In the past using Pinnacle copy tracks from other projects and paste them in new projects was a possibility.
Hope some one can learn me a smart way to answer this question.

Re: Copy video lines from old projects into a new project
I'm afraid there is no copy and paste method available like that. Your suggestion for converting that part of the older project into a new video file and using that would be the way I would do it. However, there would indeed be some small quality loss. Whether it will be noticeable or not to the human eye, however, will depend on the original format and quality. If its high definition video, then I would think the eye would probably not see any quality loss. Even if it is standard def mpeg-2 -- which is a lossy format of course -- if you only re-render the new video once, then again, the quality loss will be minimal.
The other thing you could do is to cut out the bits from the old project which you don't need, and save the remains as a new project. Then you can insert that new project into the project you are working on, just as if you were inserting a video itself. This is a process called 'nesting'. However, nesting can cause complications, depending on how many projects you try to nest. And nesting a project, which already has a project nested in it, within a third project, will almost certainly not work. The other major complication is that you have to leave the nested project alone. You cannot edit it as part of the new project it is nested in, except perhaps to move it to a different place within the new project. But you can't do internal edits e.g. changing transitions or background music, within the nested project while it is nested...

The nearest you can get to 'copy and paste' is :-
open your old project in VideoStudio - using the mouse - left click on one of the sections you need and while holding the left mouse key down slide the section up into a library pane (start a new library just for this project if it makes things easier) - release the key and a thumbnail will appear in the library - repeat this for all segments you need.
Close down your old project and open your new one and you will now be able to drag the thumbnails down from the library into the timeline of the new project.

Brian -- I agree that will certainly work for the video clips in the timeline, but he is after the whole shebang -- video, overlays and audio.... You could of course do the same with those tracks, but would then have to line them all up/synchronise them...

Re: Copy video lines from old projects into a new project
Thanks for your help !
Sadly no better solution than making a video file of it - which make it difficult to ad or delete some last things.
The idea to slep it into the libary is a nice one but doesn't work with sinchronized tracks.
Maybe something for version 6 (they can look at Pinnacle how it works
)
Cheers
