I'm having an issue with loading a photo into PSPx5. When I go to 'Open' and click on a thumbnail in a folder. Some/most times the thumbnail preview loads in a second or two. Then I can open the file. However every now and again I get a very long wait, 20-40 seconds, before the thumbnail loads. Any ideas on why this happens? All files are approx 90 meg so it's not a file size issue. Just some thumbnails taking forever to load in the small preview window.
Regards

Re: loading image in x5
I can imagine that the pictures have got different content. When creating these thumbnails PSP needs to scan the entire picture. For example, if I have a picture with a lot of bright colours, I don't get the final saving size lower than 150kb, but another picture with same size, not many colours and quite dark, it saves with only 40kb.
What happens on your side if the pictures are once loaded? Do they still take 90 seconds the second time?

Thanks Simone. I'll run a few tests.
However the vast majority of photos are of a very similar nature. I run 3 NEF's through ASP into 16bit tiffs. Then through Photomatix and out as a single 16bit tiff, 92meg. Then the 16bit tiff into PSPx5 is where the issue begins. Some thumbnails load in 1-2 second while others take 20+ seconds to load the thumbnail. Once loaded and the file opened all is well. I've had the issue with PSPx5, ASP and Photomatix open and running at the one time. I've also had the issue with no other programs running.
It happens on both my travel laptop and work desk top. It's just the wait time to open a file that annoys me.

Tiffs are not like JPGs/PNGs/RAWs and so on. The codec that was used to create them is important and if 16 bit/CMYK/RGB.
PSP has problems dealing with Tiffs since version X3. I can't remember how XI and X2 worked with tiffs, because not many customers used Tiffs at that time, but since X3, the development team changed the import filters. I suppose that the problem isn't only showing but also opening them. It also should take longer time.

I have been using TIFFs since version X2. They are converted from Canon DPP RAW Images.Simone Corel UK wrote:Tiffs are not like JPGs/PNGs/RAWs and so on. The codec that was used to create them is important and if 16 bit/CMYK/RGB.

They are definitely processed much more slowly in X5 compared with earlier versions and compared with JPGs.
By processing I don't mean loading but the time it takes to do any filter/edit action - the right hand 'preview' takes longer.

Re: loading image in x5
I've been watching my files for the past few days. There seems to be no link to what files are slow and what file aren't.
I can have a good run of 4-5 or 6 files then get just one that takes 10-20 seconds to load.
Maybe it's a computer issue but it happens on both my lap top and desk top. Both with 64 bit Win7 systems.
