AfterShot 1.1.0.30 - Crashes when generating previews - HELP

Post by PeterM »

My copy of AfterShot Pro crashes frequently while importing pictures into the catalog. Usually after importing something between 400 and 800 images, the program will crash with the following error message:

Code: Select all

AferShot Pro has stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you when a solution for the problem is available.
See also attachment.

I have deleted the catalogue and started a fresh one, same problem.

Below is what I pasted from System Info.

I have to say that the catalogue feature is one of the most important for me to buy AfterShot Pro. But this error has caused me a lot of frustration and so far I have not found anything on the Corel site or via Google.

Help please!

I have investigated this further, basically running task manager on my 2nd screen. It appears the memory used by AfterShot Pro grows and grows. If it reaches 1.6 to 1.9 gigabytes, the application hangs. I have this problem on my laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium and my PC running Windows 7 Professional. The problem is not limited to generating previews, but it is just a question of time until the application hangs.

I think you call that a "memory leak"?

I believe software with a bug like this should not be sold.

This is very bad of Corel. Very bad.

I was really smitten by the software and loved it more and more, the longer I used it. Now I have to say I regret the purchase. I guess I will have another serious look at Lightroom. Lightroom may be twice as expensive (unless you are a student), but if it is stable, I'm happy to pay that.

If there is a fix or update, I'm happy to stay with AfterShot and withdraw my comments. But I'm NOT happy paying for software that should be in beta testing. Again, very, very bad of Corel to sell software with this kind of bug.

Peter et al with Windows PCs, there's a small utility that you can use to keep this and any other memory leaker in check. Cleanmem. It's different from most other memory cleaners as it doesn't just send the files to your page file but rather it just sets Windows own memory management system on a schedule. I've set mine to 5 minute intervals. I've been running it for a couple of years on both 32 bit and 64 bit systems and have yet to find a problem with it.
