Adding media files takes forever, CPU 100%

Post by sleigh-ride »

When I try to add fairly large media files (300MB+) my CPU goes to 100% and it may take over an hour to add the file. The files play fine thru a media player. I have an Athlon 3200 with 512MB Ram. My RAM is not completely used and my virus scanner is off. Is this normal operation or do I have something wrong? This is making the software virtually unusable.

I see the same thing on some clips every now and then. Makes it very difficult to use DMF. It can also crash. There is something that is "off" in the clips. Also I have seen that problem if I attempt to load 40-50 small clips.

What is the source of the files? What capture card?
What are the clip properties?
What are your computer specs? 300MB is not that large of a file generally unless you have a slow computer.
Are you attempting to load the file from a hard drive or a CD/DVD?

And what audio/video CODEC packs are installed in your system? Use AVICodec to find out.

Hope this helps.

I captured some camcorder video using ADS DVD Xpress and the CapWiz software to my hard drive. It is an MPEG-2 clip and plays fine. My processor is 2.2 GHz. Looking around the message board, I see others have similar problems.
