Unable to install VideoStudio Pro X5 on Windows 8 Pro
I installed the 30-day trial version of VideoStudio Pro X5 (VSX5_Pro_TBYB.exe (1 431 816 336 bytes) from http://www.corel.com/ on my new Windows 8 laptop. Everything seemed to work fine until i started to experience problems with "hanging splash screen" during start-up. To solve this, I uninstalled VS Pro X5. Now, I am not able to re-install the software.
The installation seems to work OK until the EUL-screen. When checking "I accept the terms...", and pressing the Next-button, nothing happens.
I've tried (with no luck):
* Manually uninstalling/removing according to this
* Created a local new user and tried to install X5 on this
* Checking "zombie" security issues according to this
* Reading this forum...

tried running in compatibility mode ??
Re: Unable to install VideoStudio Pro X5 on Windows 8 Pro
Yes. Both the main package file (VSX5_Pro_TBYB.exe) and also located the Setup.exe under C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Temp\Corel VideoStudio Pro X5\15.0.0.001\
Tried Win 7, Xp SP 3, Vista Sp 2. No luck. Does this have anything to do with the 30-day trial (install only once)?
I've also scrolled down and read (most of) the EULA...

Re: Unable to install VideoStudio Pro X5 on Windows 8 Pro
Another note: Just tried to install the PaintShop Pro X5 trial version from www.corel.com. Did not work either, and failed the same way (Next did not work on EULA).
This is a new computer. Not much installed yet... These are installed after my first successful VideoStudio Pro X5 installation:
* VLC media player 2.0.5 (VideoLAN)
* AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2013 (AVG Technologies)
* Visual Studio 2010 x64 Redistributables (AVG Technologies) ???
* Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
Might my problems have anything to do with the Redistributables?
Is there a install-log somewhere that I can look at/send to Corel support?

Re: Unable to install VideoStudio Pro X5 on Windows 8 Pro
I also have this issue when trying to install Pro X4 and Pro X5 using windows 7. The next button doesn't respond, only the cancel button.
Re: Unable to install VideoStudio Pro X5 on Windows 8 Pro
I have just purchased Paintshop pro X5 Ultimate CD and tried to install on my Windows 7 Home Prem. I am up to date on my patches and I am actively running up to date antivirus. I am having the exact same symptoms. I cannot select the 'Next' button on the EULA. One interesting observation, when I tried to install PS, subsequently I started Skype and the login page was blank, skype started but all I got was a blue page with no login entry widgets. I had to go to an earlier restore point after reinstalling Skype didnt work.
I've contacted Corel support and they have been no help, Ive tried every step theyve suggested, copied to a USB and install, scroll down and then select the check box, I tried downloading the trial version and still no dice, next Ill be jumping up and down under a full moon while installing. I ran an MS SFC check and it came back no system file issues. If this board is monitored by Corel support, can you guys just figure it out and let us know. IF anyone else has any ideas, pls share.

Hi jdbezpa
And welcome to the forums
You have posted to the Video Studio forum
Can you confirm if you are using Video Studio or PaintShop Pro
If the latter we can move your post to the correct forum

Hi jdbezpa
I do not understand why some users are having these problems, but seems to affect VS and PSP
Try the Keyboard Alt + N instead of a mouse click, hopefully that will advance to the next window?

I've tried Alt N, Ctrl N, Ctrl Alt N, Shift Alt N, I left clicked the mouse pad device. Nothing.

Hi jdbezpa
First I have escalated this issue to Corel, whether they respond is another matter, you may be best in contacting Corel Support yourself.
I am not sure if this problem was reported to Corel Support by the original posters, the first post being 1st Jan.
If the original posters have cured the problem which by now I think they should have, I would have expected some response?
I have searched the Corel Knowledge base and found some installation issues recommending installing in safe mode

Re: Unable to install VideoStudio Pro X5 on Windows 8 Pro
Ok Thanks, by the way safe mode doesn't work because install service won't start in safe mode.
However, I researched the Skype angle I mentioned above and it turns out that there is an incompatibility with Explorer 9 and Java. Whatever, I uninstalled Explorer 9 and I was then was able to install PS with no issues, and also Skype worked without having to restore.
I suspect my previous restore was unnecessary and there was just some memory lock conflict when I tried installing PS earlier and then starting skype. Cheers.
