Re: hd video with video studio pro 4
Hi
Welcome to the forums
I have just viewed the video and it seems good quality to me.
Are you viewing it as HD full quality on YouTube, it will be set to auto, reducing the quality to match your internet speed?
Can you provide the properties of your original video file, right click a clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they? I assume Mpeg4?
From Video Studio—Share Create video File-----------
Is Same as First Video Clip available, that should use the video files properties.
Otherwise Share Create Video File – Mpeg4 –Mpeg4 HD should use 1920 x 1080.
After choosing a template the Create Video File window shows the Properties in the lower panel, check to make sure you are converting to the correct settings?

Hi
Can you give the property details of your original video file, then we may be able to see if the default templates are suitable.
Right click a clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?
I have viewed the YT video again at full HD 1920 x 1080 and to me looks great, there is some poor detail in the guide ropes supporting the two guys on the left, but they look good, the water spray, the town in the background all look in focus.
Maybe we need someone else to view this video to give other opinion.
Have you uploaded an original clip to see if that gives better detail.
Unfortunately I will be on vacation shortly so if I do not reply its not that I am ignoring you, just enjoying myself else ware

Re: hd video with video studio pro 4
I notice you removed the original video and the last link you provided is not explained -- is it a new version using different settings?
Anyway, I have watched part of the latter -- sorry but I don't have time to watch the whole 17:26 minutes!
And like Trevor, I thought it was extremely good quality -- though all the guy ropes do look a bit jagged to me. However, that could be because of the relatively small screen in YouTube... My own monitor is a 24 inch full HD one and I set your video to playback in 1080p. Like Trevor, I found everything else to be very good and clear quality. (In fact, I have pre-ordered a Hero 3 black edition but there has been a run on them here in New Zealand and so I am unlikely to get it for another week or so!!)
One thing I did notice, however, in the properties you posted above was that the frame rate was 47.952 fps. That suggests to me that you were filming using the cinematic 24p mode. Is that correct? If so, I would suggest you try to set the Hero to use the 'normal' frame rate of 29.97 (or 30) fps (NTSC) for future video. It could be that part of your perceived quality problem is caused by VS processing your 24p video at a different frame rate. I also have no idea whether YouTube processing changes the frame rate to a different one.
Your data rate or bitrate is also 29,999 kbps. This is above the current international standard for AVCHD (which your video is). That is 28,000 kbps maximum. However, worse, Video Studio is not really capable of producing AVCHD with that bitrate, currently using a maximum of only 18,000 kbps. So you are definitely taking a quality hit when processing your video with VS -- though it will only appear as a minimal difference to the human eye, I suspect. Again, I don't know what YouTube processing might do in this regard since I have to confess I have never used YouTube...

Re: hd video with video studio pro 4
I've now watched the edited one in 1080p and also thought it excellent quality. (I particularly liked the splashes over and beside the pontoon on which you had attached the Hero!
) The guy ropes also looked fairly smooth -- or smoother than the full original video. I couldn't really tell much difference in the faces -- they were a bit too much in shadow for me to be able to see in minute detail on the small YouTube screen -- though again I thought they were more than clear enough.
