VSPROX5 corrupted after installing an Instant Project

Post by Old_Friend »

Hi,

Everything was working fine with my VS PRO X5 program until after I downloaded and installed the following "Instant Template" from within VS. I chose the one which has a surfboard in it's bmp on the page with all the other Instant Projects to choose from.

C:\Users\NEW\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate\ 039_HD-Project. I think that download might be corrupted because that's the ONLY thing I've downloaded/installed to VS before this happened.

Immediately after installing that project, my computer would freeze immediately as soon as I either loaded it up, or clicked on any of the icons such as "Instant Template," etc. Even CTRL/ALT/DELETE fails to operate normally.

All my system files are up-to-date, no viruses/malware found, rebooted computer to flush memory, etc. before starting VS. The same problem happens each time, and ONLY with Video Studio. Sometimes, if I wait 5 minutes or so while the hourglass is spinning and the top bar says "Video Studio is Not Responding," suddenly, it will then begin working. But, it works only until I click on the Instant Template choice again. Frustrating.

Question: How do I uninstall or else get rid of the VS additional downloaded files, SAFELY, without losing any of my previous creations and files, or VS default templates, etc.? Will I have to uninstall VS completely and reinstall it? If so, what is the correct procedure recommended to do that. Your help will be appreciated. I can no longer use my program.

A System Restore of Windows to a date preceding your installation of the template, might help...

Thanks, Ken, but isn't that a rather radical approach? Is there no other way to eliminate the problem file(s) without having to resort to that? A system restore affects more on my system than just my one issue. Got any other suggestions?

just delete the 039_HD-Project folder - nothing is actually installed on your computer - the instant projects are just a .vsp file which has been compiled for you together with a few bitmaps used in the project..

Thank you Brian. That's more like what I wanted to know. I wasn't sure if the project templates were woven into the program, or the system registry, etc. Your solution makes it simple. Thanks again!

Have a happy, safe, and wonderful year throughout 2013.

Hi

Downloads from the do-More section are saved (for XP) here, I assume a similar location for other operating systems.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Corel\Downloads\540233871_317005\1329331688530

The folder names are a little strange and don’t mean much? but....(317005) = VSX5

After the 039_HD-Project.exe has been installed the Instant Projects files populate this folder.
C:\Documents and Settings\Trevor\My Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate\039_HD-Project

The Instant Project will be available next time you launch Video Studio.

Corel are a little lax in allowing us to view the project prior to installing.
So if you are unsure as to whether you need this Instant Project
Move the 039_HD-Project folder out of the VSPTemplate folder to another location, create a new folder called My Instant Projects to hold the templates.

You can now launch VS without changing the library, the 039 folder contains a VSP project file, open this VSP in video studio to view the contents, if you are happy then simply move the 039_HD-Project folder back to the VSPTemplate folder, then the library will be populated, but only with the templates you are intending to use.

Note:- there was an issue with about 8 HD templates not installing correctly.
I will check this one out??
