Monitor Profile/Print Calibration

Post by tucana »

Hi... I am trying out the trial version of PI 10; when I go into the Color Management section and enable colour management, although it names my monitor correctly, there are no profiles in the drop-down list for me to choose from: where do I get a monitor profile from?

It seems to have one for my printer, however (an Epson Stylus Color 680).

I will be preparing prints for an Epson Stylus Pro 9600 7-colour Ultrachrome ink system which I do not have, though. I have selected the professional option in the menu, as that appears to be for preparing prints for such purposes. The print company have suggested I use Adobe sRGB 1998 colour scheme, so I have selected the RGB option in the final drop-down box, presuming that that is the one they mean. I guess my intent is Graphics? I don't know anything about this stuff. :)

Correct? But... anyway, my settings are not accepted due to the lack of a monitor profile.

You have to have more than a monitor profile to match input to output. Your Monitor is RGB, Red Green, Blue phosphors, while your Printer is CMYK, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black Ink Dye.

You need to know the Model Number of your monitor and then you can contact your manufacturer and check to see if they have a Monitor Profile, or ICC, ICM, etc. Once installed Ulead will recognize the profile. Make sure you match you Gamma, calibrate you monitors Contrast and Brightness settings to the correct Gamma for the OS model.

If you need more help go here: http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints1A.html

PI was designed for the sRGB color model so getting a matching profile for the CMYK model will be difficult unless experienced.
