Are there any Tutorials relating to the Capture Screens? Much of my Archived video is on DVD as a direct copy of the raw footage. I wanted to download a section from the DVD and to get VSx5 to split it into scenes. This facility is available when capturing from a DV camera but I cannot find the equivalent when capturing from digital media.
I can use the "Split by Scene" option but this only works on the Timeline and does not generate a Library of shots.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: The Capture Screens
Unfortunately as you have found the split by scene into separate files only works on import from a DV tape.
I don't know of any way to split a media file automatically into individual files.

Hi
From the timeline or library you should be able to use Split by Scene on DV-Avi and Mpeg2 type video
Insert a video file to the timeline, right click and choose Split by Scene
A new window will open allowing you to choose some options and Scan Method.
The Split by Scene option when used on the timeline or library does not create new files but is the same as or similar to using the scissors, except the cuts are done automatically.

In fact I have just tried with sample Panasonic 900 clips (provided by Brian) and the Split by Scene is also available. So I guess it works for other types of video
A little more info
You can also access the scenes when inserting a video file,
Right click the timeline and choose Insert Video
Browse and select your video file.
From the Open Video File window choose the Scenes button, you may need to go here to deselect any previous Split by Scene - otherwise the video file will always open using scenes?
Oh and there is a slight problem in using Split by Scene, there seems to be an error of one frame as the cut is made, this shows as a wrong frame as the last frame on every clip. Same when capturing DV-Avi and using split by scene, i use Win DV.

Re: The Capture Screens
Split by Scene works fine. 48 scenes all lined up like a pack of dominos!
I had dumped my DV tape from my Canon onto a DVD, It included scenes around my home, an Lifeboat launch and a documentary about the Welsh Highland Railway. I was trying to be clever and pick out the Lifeboat bit - it worked but not quite as I hoped - I just have to knock out 35 scenes to get the bit I want.

Re: The Capture Screens
Hi
You could use “Multi trim video” or simply use the scissors to cut the section you want.
Otherwise trim the ends of the clip using the Mark-In Mark-out (F3 –F4) square brackets.
