VSX5 - CREATE PAL FORMAT DVD

Post by vinodmehta »

Hi:

I am new to the forum. I have installed VX5 recently.

Problem:

I have created 9 chapters total of 4.3 GB to create DVD. The chapters are images saved in VSP format. I am able to create DVD with audio and all components in NTSC format. When I want to create the same VSP files in PAL DVD format it creates NTSC DVD. even though, I set PAL in Setting and option panel as PAL in share window.

Then I tried to create another VSP folder with few images IN WORK SPACE and set in PAL IN THE SETTING PREFERENCE. Then tried to create PAL DVD. It goes back to NTSC. Is there any way I can create PAL format DVD. The previous versions had that ability w/o any problems. Any advise?
I only use images from my travels.

Also, I do not like Menu templates offered in VSX5. It is too cumbersome and not user friendly. Has any one created a Menu template(s) that is simple to use
with audio, background music and intro chapters with image?

Anyone help will be appreciated.

With regard to changing between PAL and NTSC as far as I can see X5 is the same as previous versions - so whatever you did before you should be able to do in X5. You talk of making chapters into .vsp - just so we don't get into confusion later - if you are putting a number of .vsp files into the create disc module timeline then they are TITLES - which is different from CHAPTERS.

I'm not sure what your changing where - but I wouldn't do anything in preferences - I would put the NTSC project in the VS timeline and go to "Share > > Create video File" and then choose 'custom' at the bottom - then in the next dialogue window choose the 'options' button - then in yet another dialogue window set the parameters to PAL DVD - then create a PAL video and burn that to a PAL DVD.

On the subject of menu templates you can can change EVERYTHING in the current menu template - music/background image/ thumbnails etc. have a look at this video :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMDId9qnVV0

Just so you can see, when you select Share > Create Disc > DVD, the burning module opens. You first click on the first icon in the bottom left of the burning screen (red arrow to the left). Then when the dialogue box opens, you change from the default PAL/SECAM format to NTSC --red arrow to the right.

Hi Brian and Ken:

Thank you for your suggestions. Here is my report.

I tried both suggestions from you and neither works.

Ken, I had tried your options before writing this post. And it did't created PAL DVD. That is what I used to do with the old version.

Brian, I tried your suggestions and it still created DVD in NTSC format.

How I can check this output? I have two dvd players, one is all regions and one is Samsung BD player which will not play PAL format DVD. After creating DVD with your suggestions, it did't convert to PAL version.

Anything I am missing here?

You were supposed to use BOTH suggestions together - Ken was just expanding on the method I suggested.

First - create a PAL video file. -- - - - THEN - delete everything in the timeline, then "Share >> Create Disc >> DVD" - *IF* there is anything in the timeline of the create disc module when it opens then delete that as well.

Then - as Ken advised - click on the first icon in the bottom left corner and choose "Disc template manager" - change the settings in there to PAL '

Now using the icons in the top left corner - import the PAL video that you created and burn to disc.

Have you done exactly that - if you have do you still do not have a PAL DVD ?

Hi Brian and Ken:

I did everything you both suggested to create PAL format DVD.

1) I selected two VSP format titles with images and music.
2) Opened each one of these project in timeline seperately.
3) Click on Share and create Video file. Chose custom and selected PAL format shows the 720x576 in details.
4) Saved as video mpg format in my folder. Opened the second title and did the same and saved seperatly in the folder.
5) Timeline is cleaned no open projects.
6) Click Share button and opened these tww saved mpg files (titles).
7) Click the Disk Template Mgr. and selected PAL , DVD Video 16:9
8) The bottom message confirmed that I have DVD PAL format. I CLOSED THE DISK TEMP. MGR.
9) Click NEXT and it shows that format NTSC and not PAL.
10 Made DVD and it is still not PAL format.

I just do not know what else is going on. Once you create video in mpg format and then select PAL in Disk Template Mgr. Why it reverts back to NTSC????

Thanks.

6) Click Share button and opened these tww saved mpg files (titles).
7) Click the Disk Template Mgr. and selected PAL , DVD Video 16:9
The bottom message confirmed that I have DVD PAL format. I CLOSED THE DISK TEMP. MGR.
9) Click NEXT and it shows that format NTSC and not PAL.
In step 6, what did you select: Share > Create Video File or Share > Create Disc. It should be the latter. And if so, how exactly did you "open the two files"?

Re step 7: what do you mean by Disk Template Mgr? If it is the one under Settings, then that relates to the *Editing* process, not the burning process. What you should be opening is the first icon in the bottom left of the burning screen and changing things there to PAL.

Hi Ken:

Once again thank you.

Step 6 - Selected Create Disc
opened two mpg files from the folder by clicking "Add Video" in create disk screen. Added two MPG files. (THESE MPG FILES WERE CREATED IN SHARE >VIDEO FILES >SELECT PAL>SAVED AS MPG FORMATE.
In step 7 went to bottom left corner and clicked Disk Template Mgr. and chose PAL/SECAM DVD 16:9. BOTTOM MESSAGE CONFIRMED SELECTED PAL/SECAM DVD 16:9.
CLOSED THE DISK TEMPLATE MANAGER IN THE BURNING DVD SCREEN.
CLICK NEXT AND I DI D SEE THAT FORMAT NTSC IS SHOWN AND NOT THE PAL FORMAT WHICH WAS CHOSEN IN THE PREVIOUS STEP " DISK MGR TEMPLATE. THAT IS WHAT YOU EXPECTED.

IN STEP 7 THE FIRST ICON ON THE LEFT IS CHOSEN TO SET IN PAL FORMAT.

I HAVE DONE EXACTLY YOU HAVE SUGGESTED.

Hi

First Change the project properties

Try this

1 / Open a new project
2 / Settings – Project properties (Alt+Enter)
3 / Edit
4 / Compression tab
5 / Modify these settings to use Media Type Pal DVD.

Your project is now using Pal settings

6 / Share Create Disc
7 / Add media –Add Video files -- insert your video MPEG files

8 / viewing the Project Settings Cogwheel should show as Pal standard.
9 / Make sure Do Not Convert Compliant Mpeg files is selected, is ticked.

Templates Gallery

You have a choice of Smart Scene, Thumbnail, and Text.
Thumbnail and text are easier to use.

Hi Lata:

Thank you so much.

Your steps worked just fine. I did't have to create mpg format. Using your step by step guidelines, I was able to create PAL DVD from VSP files. Now I appreciate this VS5 program much more.

My thanks also go to Brian and Ken. I appreciate both of you taking time to get me going.

Regards and Happy New Year.
