Hi,
I'm looking for away to do what is a very common and probably easy effect but I have no idea what it is called so I can't search it. It's taking a photograph image and making it so it is one colour against a one colour background. Sort of so only the shadows are visible.
It's a very well known effect, her is a link to an example on a tshirt -

Thanks!
Trying to achieve famous effect with photo.

Use Adjust...Brightness and Contrast...Threshold to convert your image to a high contrast black and white image. Double-click the image to change the background layer to a normal layer, and then use the Magic Wand to select the white areas and delete them, leaving you with only the black areas. You can then add a raster layer beneath and fill that layer with the colour of your choice.

Re: Trying to achieve famous effect with photo.
EDIT: Photodrawken beat me to it. But at least they're slightly different methods.
Multiple methods available. Most use a mixture of brightness and contrast functions.
Convert to Black and White (I would use the Black and White Photo effect from the Effects menu as that helps to emphasize or deemphasize portions of the image based on color).
Then use the Levels command to really increase the contrast. Just drag the white and black triangles toward the center. And move the center toward either the black or white arrow depending on which color you want to emphasize. Some like to use Threshold for that harsh "Black or White" option but in my opinion that makes everything way too blocky.
From there you can either select the white or black using the magic wand tool and color it, or create a mask from the layer. The mask offers some flexibility without being damaging. But if you're not used to using it might feel a bit odd.
