Video studio x4 unspecified error when trying to creat disk
Here we go again. I am now getting a unspecified error when I try to create a disc. It tells me to:send the file C:\documents and settings\xxx\local settings\temp\vstudio_14.0.1.3_20101220_083832.DMP to tech support. Trouble is there is no technical support unless I have a paid subscription. I cannot read the file because windows xp will not recognize it. This the second problem that has come up in the last few days and is getting annoying. What can I do to fix this error? I see nowhere on here that I can attach the named file.

Re: Video studio x4 unspecified error when trying to creat d
You see nowhere on here to attach the file because we are not part of Corel tech support - as it says at the top this is a "User to User" web board - even if you posted the file on here none of us would know how to open it and if we did we would not know what to do with the information.
Did you solve your previous problem about insufficient space - you never responded to Ken to say whether you had cured that problem - or is this still part of the same problem - we need feed back from you please.
what sort of a disc are you trying to create a standard DVD or blu-ray or what - what are the full properties of the video files which you import into the create disc module.
Exactly when do you get the error - when you first open the Create disc module - when you insert videos - when you change the menu - when you go to the final screen - when you click on burn ?
What settings have you used for the burn - did you change the working directory as Ken suggested - did you make any other changes to the setting - have you selected the correct disc type - what type of DVD are you using - is the space required/available showing the correct figures - is the coloured bar at the bottom of the create disc module green for it's whole length.

Yes this was solved by the suggestion. I wrote back in a email that had the suggestion that it worked and did not know I needed to do it here also. SorryNew postby BrianCee on Thu Dec 20, 2012 11:21 am

This is the same standard DVD-R that I have been using all along. I have been capturing from VHS as a MPG filewhat sort of a disc are you trying to create a standard DVD or blu-ray or what - what are the full properties of the video files which you import into the create disc module.
I can open video studio and do the edit. In edit I open the file I want to burn. Then when I go to share and click on the option create disc that is when I get the error.Exactly when do you get the error - when you first open the Create disc module - when you insert videos - when you change the menu - when you go to the final screen - when you click on burn ?
I changed the working directory as suggested. I did not make any other changes. If fact the only changes in either preference file was the working directoryWhat settings have you used for the burn - did you change the working directory as Ken suggested - did you make any other changes to the setting - have you selected the correct disc type - what type of DVD are you using - is the space required/available showing the correct figures - is the coloured bar at the bottom of the create disc module green for it's whole length.

Re: Video studio x4 unspecified error when trying to creat d
Can you explain in a little more detail what file you mean. Do you open the *project* file which has the .vsp extension? Or have you already produced a new file from the project (Share > Create Video File)? In edit I open the file I want to burn.
If the latter, then you may not be going about things the right way. If you already have the new file somewhere on your computer, then when you open VS with a blank timeline, leave it that way and click on Share > Create Disc (which will be the only option with a blank timeline). The burning module will then open and you click on the Add Media button in the top left of the burning screen and navigate to where your file is located and select it. It will then appear in the burning timeline. You then build your menu and do the actual burn.
P.S. I edited your above post to put Brian's questions in a quotation box. It was too confusing and difficult to follow otherwise.

Re: Video studio x4 unspecified error when trying to creat d
What I have been doing is I capture the video from my VHS recorder which saves as a MPEG-2 file with a name of the date similar to uvs120917-01.mpg. I then edit the file to what I want and save it. I then close the file. I then change the name of the file in the working folder to whatever was on the VHS tape so as to not confuse myself witch file is which. I then reopen the file I want and relink the file. It is now ready to burn. This has been working until now.Ken Berry wrote:"Can you explain in a little more detail what file you mean. Okay tried doing is that way and it seemed to work. I have not view the video yet so see if it all recorded. I then went back and tried to burn it again by having the file in the edit module and burning it from there and got the same error. I probably use it this way but if I want to use any of the options in the burn module how can I since they are not available doing it this way?Ken Berry wrote:"If the latter, then you may not be going about things the right way. Re: Video studio x4 unspecified error when trying to creat d
ottersea - like Ken I have had to edit your post to make it readable - you appear to be copying the previous post and pasting it in your reply - then you type bits in the middle in the same font and same colour - so it is very difficult to know which is original and which is new.
If you want to quote - and there is absolutely NO NEED to - you do not need to quote when replying - then please use the "Quote" button.
to your problem - VIEW the new file you made - do not view it in VS - but in some other media player - is it good ?
if yes now open VideoStudio but do NOT add any files or projects - go to "Share >> Create Disc" and when the module opens use the icons near the top left corner to import your NEW video - can you now burn from there ?

And again I have to ask, you save you "save" the file. But what do you mean by that? Do you go to File > Save (or Save As)? Or do you go to Edit > Create Video File?I then edit the file to what I want and save it.
If the former, you are only saving the .vsp project file and not creating a new video file...

In edit I go to file click on save as and then put the name of the file that the video is in the save as window. Such as family vacation 2000. I then click on save in the save as window.

Re: Video studio x4 unspecified error when trying to creat d
That is only saving the project (.vsp) file - it is not creating a video file that you can view.
please with your project in the timeline go to "Share >> Create Video file >> DVD" and choose the appropriate option for your project - now give that a name and save it as a .mpg video. - play that video in a media player - such as Windows Media player - does it play well there ??
if yes now open VideoStudio but do NOT add any files or projects - go to "Share >> Create Disc" and when the module opens use the icons near the top left corner and in particular the leftmost of them to import your NEW video - can you now burn from there ?

Re: Video studio x4 unspecified error when trying to creat d
That will work as noted in my previous reply. I can burn the video by not going to create disc in the share module with the video in the timeline in the edit module. Leaving the timeline in the edit module blank and then going to the share module and importing the video does seem to work. The problem is that it will no longer work with the video in the timeline in the edit module. By not having the video in the timeline I lose the options in the share module. Are these not needed? But it goes back to the original problem as why does it no longer work the other way. That is having the edited video in the timeline and then going to create disc and burning it onto the disc? It has been working now all or a sudden it not longer works and I get the error and it basically locks up the computer until it finally shuts down.

Re: Video studio x4 unspecified error when trying to creat d
What options are not available to you in the create disc module if you open it empty - I create all my DVD's that way and have for several years - ALL options are available whichever way you go into the create disc module.
We discovered a long time ago that some users have problems going in with the project in the timeline - it is possibly something to do with the fact that if you do that it is a .vsp you take in and not a video - we do not know for sure - but creating a video first and checking it seems to circumnavigate the problem - seems to solve the problem.
I always do it so I can check the video thoroughly first in various other problems. Then even in the burn module I do not burn straight to disc - I create an .iso file - then close the burn module and create as many DVDs as I need from that.

Re: Video studio x4 unspecified error when trying to creat d
When going in without anything in the timeline in edit the following options are not available in the share module
Create Video File, Create Audio File, Export to Mobile Device, Project Playback, and HDV Recording. As of yet I have not had any use for these but they were available before when going to the share module with the video in the timeline in the edit module. They are not available when going to the share module when there is nothing in the timeline in the edit module.

Re: Video studio x4 unspecified error when trying to creat d
They are not available because you do not need them - you are going to create a disc - why do you want to see those ? - they are for when you want to create a video file or a sound file from a project and are not needed at all to create a disc from a video file. They are not about what you are going to do or need to do while burning a disc - but about what you can do with the project in the timeline.
If as we are suggesting you make your video file first you can now just open the create disc module from an empty timeline - all you want to do is create disc and that option is fully available to you.
