PSP X5 button icons wrong
I just installed PSP X5 Ultimate (full install). After it completed it installed an update. All appeared to go fine. I opened the program and went to EDIT. I am familiar with PSP as I have used a number versions up to X2. The first thing I tried to do was crop a photo. The crop tool buttons are not correct. The "Apply", "Crop as new image" and so on under the crop area window are not correct. I see a square of colors. I see the same thing on the main tool bar for the "Copy Special" function and the "Share" button. There could be more that I have not discovered yet. I rebooted and tried again, but get the same thing. Also, the button icons look different each time I load.
Anyone else see this or know what to do?

Re: PSP X5 button icons wrong
I have a similar issue with icons that change themselves back and forth at will. My incorrect icons are on the Layers Palette. I reported this during beta testing but it seems to be a random occurrence that will self-correct and then switch back again to the incorrect icons. Since it's so random, doesn't effect everyone and almost impossible to replicate I don't hold much hope of a fix.
What you can try is to reset your workspace as that seems to correct a multitude of things. First, and especially if you have done any customization, you should save your workspace and then close the program. Next while holding down the shift key click on a desktop icon for PSP. It will ask you something to the effect of "do you want to revert to factory defaults". Click yes or okay (I forget what it says) and see if your icons have returned to normal.
As you can see these are not the correct icons on the layers palette.

Re: PSP X5 button icons wrong
Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried the 3 methods to restore I found in the knowledgebase. I held shift while running the program to restore to the default state. I then ran the restore database program and then renamed the 15.0 folder in the Application Data Folder, but still the same icons are wrong. I looked and my layer icons are fine. It is the same ones that are wrong each time. I wonder were the program gets that icon from? Maybe there is a problem with that file. I have not uninstalled/installed yet. I wrote to customer support to see what they think, but what I got back so far is to do what I have done.

Re: PSP X5 button icons wrong
I found many more icons that are wrong by turning on different toolbars. I also found that if I right clicked on the toolbar and selected customize and then the options tab and checked "Show small icons" then all the icons are fine. If I uncheck it the bad icons are back. I wonder why some of the large icons would be wrong?

Re: PSP X5 button icons wrong
I don't know what the reason is but it is very random and seems to impact people differently or not at all. One good thing is that if you have the screen tips turned on via the Customize -> Options menu, you will see the correct description when you hover the mouse over the icons.
I tried your method of switching to small icons to see what would happen and I did not get the same result you did. As soon as I clicked on small icons, my incorrect icons were overlaid with the words RAW and JPG (screen shot below). When I clicked okay to accept the change to small icons, the incorrect icons were still there; just smaller and the words RAW and JPG disappeared.
Would I like to see this fixed? YES!! Do I think it will happen? Probably not.

Re: PSP X5 button icons wrong
That is a strange problem. Looks like your issue is it shows an icon that is different than what it should be. For my icons that are incorrect it shows a random colored square (when on large).
I hope they can fix it too, but who knows.
I do notice that this version is a lot slower than X2. Atleast on the computer I am using now. I think it is time to update.

Re: PSP X5 button icons wrong
Abiel,
Thanks for your suggestions; however, my PSPX5 is fully patched with SP1. In fact, the issues with the incorrect icons occurred after I applied SP1. I reported this on Zen Desk 9/5/12 (ticket #980). Also, I have the current version of DirectX (11) installed.
By the way, your second link for DirectX leads to a page that reads "Meet Windows 8".

Re: PSP X5 button icons wrong
As Kathy mentioned, some users experience problems, others don't.
This is what I see when I use the floating crop toolbar (which I normally don't):

That is what I see when I switched to small icons. The correct icons show then. I am glad that it works one way or another. It would be nice if they could fix it though. When I told customer support that I already did the 3 methods they said "Unfortunately, there is nothing further I can do."
Thanks.... We just got the puppy 2 weeks ago.

When I look at your system specs, you must have a very old machine and installed a theme, which often cause problems.
operating_system: Windows XP Pro
System_Drive: C
32bit or 64bit: 32 Bit
motherboard: Intel D875PBZ (Intel website: Date Created: 20-Nov-2005)
processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2005)
ram: 2GB
Video Card: RADEON X850 Series (2004/05)
No wonder that X5 works slower then X2, which was fine for your hardware. The icons are a graphic card/DirectX issue. The driver must be 4 years if not even 7 years old.
You could think about buying a new machine... Only a suggestion.

Re: PSP X5 button icons wrong
Just to illustrate my point that these icons "come and go" as they please, the correct icons are back on my layers palette today. I didn't do a thing - they just reappeared.

My computer:
Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
Intel Core i5 CPU 750@2.67GHz
4.0GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
Runs X5 without any problems (other than what Corel decides to throw at us, but that's a different story).
But ... I have had to uninstall X2 as it was slower than a snail and drove me nuts.
It doesn't always follow that newer is better.
Just my thoughts
