Corel VideoStudio is hanging up sit'n spinning after file
Everything was wonderful, highly productive and enthused by the great product I was able to create with the Video Studio x5. Then all of a sudden the program sits and spins after saving a video file in any file format. I can save a project and continue working on it. The batch converter works great, but to save a video file, it gets all jammed up. It improved when I took off the option to have it play after it was saved. But go to play any of the saved files and the whole system sits and spins. Is there a cache that needs to be increased in size or purged?

Re: Corel VideoStudio is hanging up sit'n spinning after fil
I figured out how to delete the %temp% files and that seemed to speed things up quite a bit, but still no saving grace. So I reset the software to defaults by renaming the 15.0 file and still no luck. I even tried to run a patch but that said it could not determine my software something or other and it did not complete. I tried restoring my cpu to an earlier date but I get a message that it can't be done because of an antivirus program that is running, yet I disabled. So the only thing left is too uninstall and reinstall but I am dragging my heels here hoping it would be something else.

Re: Corel VideoStudio is hanging up sit'n spinning after fil
Downloaded the direct x from Microsoft. That was confusing as hell so I downloaded the developer and regular to no avail. VSProX5_SP1 tried running this patch again and it stalled out. I guess the only thing left to do is uninstall and re-install. Something tells me that is going to do f'k all but will give it a go here. That deadline is now upon me and this once great tool in my arsenal is broken. I know it is something simple, but can't find it here in the dark.

Re: Corel VideoStudio is hanging up sit'n spinning after fil
Is there a special codec to be downloaded for mpeg2 videos to be played on VideoStudio x5? Thanks again for all the assistance!

No. Anything it needs comes either with the VS package or else is already installed as part of Windows.

Thanks Ken, is there anything known that inhibits VS x5? I uninstalled and reinstalled, did all the updates and it is still sitting and spinning upon saving as a DVD>Mpeg2 file. I am at wits end here. The only thing I can think of is a windows update that took place recently. Yet, for some reason I am unable to revert back before that took place on this cpu.

Re: Corel VideoStudio is hanging up sit'n spinning after fil
One thing is puzzling me. You say it actually 'saves' the mpeg-2 file - by which I assume you mean it renders a project to a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 file. Only VS won't then play it. But does the mpeg-2 play in another software player, like Window Media Player?
Or do you mean that you also cannot go on to burn an actual DVD with it i.e. Share > Create Disc > DVD and add the new mpeg-2? If so, have you tried, instead of finishing your edits and selecting Share > Create Video File > DVD, select Share > Create Disc > DVD instead. When the burning module opens your project file will already be in the burning timeline. Then you build your menu and burn the disc, and the conversion ("saving") to mpeg-2 will take place as part of the burning process, instead of earlier, as a separate step, in the editing module.

Re: Corel VideoStudio is hanging up sit'n spinning after fil
Ken, i think you may be onto something here. They just won't play in VS x5 or Windows media player. I thought that they were corrupted and did not finish because Corel had to be shut down after sitting and spinning forever and a day when i went to save them.
Yet, i went to my MediaImpressions player and the damn things play fine. So my Windows media player and Corel are the ones that can not play mpeg2 or get hung up when I save to that format or try to play that format of file. Yet, that was not always the case.
As for burning to dvd's I have yet to even try that. My main concern right now is editing and creating 5 min segments that are due here this week and being able to save them so I can send them to be played on our cable TV show. Being able to play them as well would be nice as I would hate to send them and have them be corrupted.
I was getting ready to purchase a new cpu here to fix this, but my fear is that I would have the same problems no matter which way I turn here. But if one program can play these files, then why can't my VS pro x5?? Something is wonky here.
Edit: now my Windows Media Player won't open after i had to shut it down because it was sitting and spinning after trying to play a mpeg2 file I had created with VS x5. Same problem with VSx5 but at least that program opens.

Re: Corel VideoStudio is hanging up sit'n spinning after fil
OK, maybe this will help or just F it up more but here goes. I went to microsoft to update or reinstall my windows media player, this is what they gave me:
Windows6.1-KB968211-x64-RefreshPkg.msu 303.6 M
Windows6.1-KB968211-x86-RefreshPkg.msu 278.3 MB
LOL! They were not applicable to my computer! Figures.

Re: Corel VideoStudio is hanging up sit'n spinning after fil
Something is going awry with my windows mpeg2 or .mpg codex and the .mpg files are not playing in any windows based video players including corel vs x5. I have the latest directx and the corel vs x5 update as it is telling me it is up to date and the number is 12.1.0.34 I am wondering if I need one of these Corel products: The Ultimate XPack
http://apps.corel.com/lp/xpacks/index3.html
Would this give my windows media player and Corel VS x5 the ability to play the .mpg and mpeg2 video files I need to save my cable TV segments and play them in?

Re: Corel VideoStudio is hanging up sit'n spinning after fil
It looks like it is a windows codex problem. I went to http://www.vidmex.com/codecs.html and downloaded
Windows7 Codec Package
Purpose: Decode/encode many media formats on Windows 7.
Windows7 Codec Package includes all major video and audio codecs. It allows to play or to encode media files on Windows 7.
This actually let me play mpeg videos in Corel again. However, it did not remedy the Share>save a file>DVD>Mpeg2 problem with Corel VS x5 just sitting and spinning after the rendering is completed. I still have to shut down Corel and reopen the program. It seems to save the file and I have not noticed many huge errors in the file, but something is just not right with VSx5. When is that next update planned? I am sure many others are going to wake up to this problem when they go to save their next production.
From doing research online one person said that microsoft is cracking down on codex's mainly the apple ones. If true, I don't blame them, apple does suck, but now we need this product producer to make Corel work better with Windows. I would hate to think of Corel loosing all their PC customers. Hell, now a days you can't afford to loose one customer let alone a whole army of them.

not sure if you updated the codecs that I've listed below but you may want to take a look at them.
Here are some of the codecs that you may want to install.
