Support for a new camera is a feature request, not a technical problem (bug). That's a major difference and is usually treated quite differently by customer support. They might forward it to product management or just throw it away. Or anything in between.

That said, I think Corel waited too long. Game over. Even if they release an update now: Aftershot Pro's reputation is ruined. The word will spread in forums, and nobody will recommend the product. Corel probably has already realized that, combined it with presumably low sales numbers, and probably have decided a while ago to let the product die.

Did Corel drop it?
Are there any other Canon DSLR users that use a 4Ti (650 D) that have had any success editing the raw file using ASP?
I have Canon t4i, but no luck with ASP. It will not even recognize the raw file. I am thinking of moving to Lightroom.

Thanks rk225. I haven't looked at Lightroom yet, but have DL the trial for PS CS6 and also Camera Bits' Photo Mechanic. So far for management I really am liking Photo Mechanic. I don't think there's another program that can come close. You can't do any editing with it, but for cataloging it's the most versatile app I've seen.

I am still waiting for the upgrade that was promised two months ago by some bobo from Corel that I had sent an e-mail with the question when I can edit Pentax K5IIs pictures in ASP.
Still no upgrade of ASP and I think I don't want tot wait anymore.
In this times of recession you should care for your customers as a supplier and not holding them on the line for month and month.
Corel is not listning to their customers..........

Corel wrote me to my request:

Thank you for contacting Corel Customer Support.
---------
Both Canon 1Dx and 6D are not yet supported by AfterShot Pro. These models are now reported to be included on the next service pack update. As of the moment, PaintShop Pro X5 supports these cameras. Sorry for the inconvenience.

We don't have a timeline yet of when will be the next service pack update for AfterShot but what I can assure you is that a report has been made regarding the camera models as some of the users have this issues as well. Sorry for this.
---------
It was some time ago with no new update sine then. I started to use Darktable. User interface is better and faster in ASP, but Darktable have better image quality (highlight recovery, fill shadows).

So I now actually BOUGHT a Canon 6D. The 6D came with a free copy of Lightroom 5, so I have been "forced" to use this for my workflow. I miss features like layering, other things (like multiple NDgrads for a variety of parameters) is better than in Aftershot. Hoping to get support for the 6D to ASP soon before I get used to LR5 ;)

I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. I bought Lightroom 4 when I realized that Corel wasn't going to update AfterShot Pro quickly enough. It's a shame because ASP is a great program, but I couldn't hold myself back (my workflow, my development, my growth) just because Corel didn't feel like setting aside the resources to keep up development of their software.

At this point I've come to like and love LR4 so much, I would never go back to ASP, even if they did update it, because it's just as powerful if not more so, even though there were a lot of things I liked about ASP.

Come on, even Microsoft has finally released a codec to display the 6D's thumbnails on their 64 bit OS Windows Explorer (the 32 bit OS codec was out a while back) and they're not in the business of photography editing per se!!

Corel just simply dropped the ball on this and lost several customers. In this day and age that's a mistake too big to make. And the fact that their Camera RAW applet within PaintShop Pro X5 does open the 6D raw files doesn't help because its handling of the white balance is just terrible, so forget it, I'm a LR customer now.

Woot!! Very bad call that they did not bother to notify their customer base. I have been using Lightroom 5 for some time now, might not bother to come back to ASP. Some things in LR5 are better, yet others are still better in AFP imo.

Re: Canon 6D // 700D T5i and CR2 RAW

Post by sunnyorlando »

 I have the same issue with the colored (pink in this case) overlay when opening RAW .CR2 files with PSP x4. Although the RAW support in PSP x4 states it supports up to T3i, it appears that the newer 4i and 5i (which are almost identical) use a different RAW format.
Is there a way around this? Patch, upgrade - will 5x support it? Although in 5x it only states T3i as well.
Or will PSP 4x be totally useless for CR2 versions?

:?: How difficult is it for a software company to add support to another file format... ?

Thanks
Jaime

You might be better off asking this in the PSP Forum.
AS and PSP do not use the same raw engine....

Quite difficult...
If adding new cams which all use the same format is already an issue, then adding a new file format is a major undertaking.
