OpenType Fonts exist but are suddenly invisible in PSP X4
I have been using PSP X4 for over a year with OpenType fonts. Suddenly this morning, all OTF have quit working in PSP, but TrueType fonts work just fine. I can choose an OTF from the font name window and see the first 6 character preview. However, when I type, there is nothing visible with the OTF. The cursor moves, but nothing shows. After I have typed with the invisible OTF, the text box exists in the appropriate size for what I have typed, but you can't see anything -- completely invisible. I can highlight my invisible OTF typing and change it to TrueType, and the text is there. Likewise, I can type in a TTF, highlight my typing and change it to an OTF and the text becomes invisible.
So PSP is recognizing the text, it just won't display it in OTF.
I can open previously-created files that used OTF in the text, and the OTF text is not visible, either.
I've never had any problem with OpenType fonts in PSP before -- they've always worked just like the TrueType for me.
The OTFs work fine in all other programs on my computer -- only problem with OTF is in PSP.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Have you recently downloaded the update for psp x4? Can you check the build/version number of your PSP x4 by going to HELP > ABOUT PSP then tell us the version number.
This can also be a problem with workspace, you reset your workspace by pressing and holding down the SHIFT key then double-click on the PSP icon then when you received the message "DO YOU WAN TO RESTORE PAINTSHOP Pro TO ITS DEFAULT STATE?" just click OK.

This is happening to me today too. I have over 400 designs that I sell, and all of them are affected =(
Is this a bug, or is there something we should be doing?

Re: OpenType Fonts exist but are suddenly invisible in PSP X
Thanks for the reply.
I'm on 14.3.0.3 -- I reinstalled PSP X4 this morning (after I discovered the problem) & installed all of the updates available at the corel site. I had hoped that a reinstall/update would fix the problem, but OT fonts are still "invisible."
I reset the workspace, but that didn't fix it, either.
I'm totally perplexed.

Nope...mine is still doing it.
All the designs that had the Open True Fonts on them are not working. This affects my entire company as all the designs we sell daily use these fonts.
Our business is now at a standstill until this is fixed.
I am using PSPx3

Depending on what you're doing you should be able to use another editor like Inkscape or the GIMP to apply the text to your designs.
Just curious, what happens when you convert the text to a normal path? Does it remain invisible?

Hello,
we had the same problem this morning.
This happened right after installing the Microsoft Patch KB2752843, which fixes security problems regarding to OpenType fonts.
Deinstalling this patch fixed the problem for us.
Make sure you read http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/secu ... n/ms12-078

Re: OpenType Fonts exist but are suddenly invisible in PSP X
Had same issue here. My Windows patch had a different number though so I thought I would share. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and my patch number was KB2753842.
Microsoft information on their bad patch:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2753842
MS12-078: Description of the security update for the Windows OpenType Compact Font Format (CFF) driver: December 11, 2012
TO UNINSTALL PATCH:
CONTORL PANEL > PROGRAMS AND FEATURES > VIEW INSTALLED UPDATES
Look for the patch number listed and uninstall. You can verify it is the correct patch to uninstall by searching (Googling) the patch number. You are looking for the "security update for the Windows OpenType Compact Font Format."
WARNING: Uninstalling this patch re-opens your system to attach vulnerabilities. This is a security patch that is messing up the Open Type drivers in Windows. For information on the "HIGH RISK" vulnerability: http://www.symantec.com/security_respon ... ?bid=56841
Here is yet another reason Corel needs to go back and embrace the Mac.

Re: OpenType Fonts exist but are suddenly invisible in PSP X
This problem with Open Type fonts points to an urgent need for Corel to issue a patch for PSPX5 ASAP.
With the MS security patch installed, only PSPX5 cannot use Open Type fonts -- I have the previous generation of the CorelDraw Graphics Suite (X5), and both CorelDraw and PhotoPaint continue to use Open Type fonts just fine.
Reading the vulnerability description addressed by the MS patch, you can see that exploitation can be achieved through seemingly innocent vectors, and removing the patch that addresses a "critical" vulnerability like this is very unwise....

It would be best if they could offer patches for other versions as well. Though I know they won't. This bug has been reported to affect X2, X3, X4 and X5.

I completely agree.
It's a sad commentary, but I think you're right about that, too.LeviFiction wrote:Though I know they won't.
When you couple this problem of Open Type fonts with the long-standing bug of an extra "space" added to the end of a line of type, one can only conclude that the PSP text engine is fatally flawed; and it makes me seriously question a) Corel's commitment to quality, and b) Corel's ability to write code.
For this problem, all we can do is wait and hope that perhaps the PhotoPaint text engine can be quickly incorporated into PSP.

Re: OpenType Fonts exist but are suddenly invisible in PSP X
Wow this isn't sounding very good at all! I want to keep using version XI. I just can't handle the so called improvements that comes with X4 I bought. Some of the tools coding have improved but the interface! Anyway no matter, I just don't like it at all.
I really hope Coral don't just fix X5 and forget about the older version.

Re: OpenType Fonts exist but are suddenly invisible in PSP X
See this thread. It was most likely due to a bad Microsoft patch that has been fixed with a re-release of the patch.
