for imports i think ASP is not sufficient, at least for me.
my current import script (in bash) downloads from card only those images that havent been downloaded yet, dumps files into folders by camera (determined by exif-string and/or serial number), also by date (which asp could do) and can handle all know buddy files i tell it to know (jpg, xmp, md5, wav, ..) at the same time.
currently it's a bit of an embarrassing mess codewise, once i get to clean it up and make it configurable in a way that other people can use it without redoing the whole thing, i will publish it. dont hold your breath.
Bibble since 2004. Aftershot until 2020. From then on darktable.
Had no problems to install photozora (did it some time ago, don't really remember, but noticed noting special ...)
Have no problems with import or search (I only noticed problems with functions I don't need and use, like virtual 3D Gallerys)
I am no pro (shooting about 5.000 pictures/year), if software crashes sometimes (not very often - I think its like ASP) its no big problem for me.
I use PhotoZora because I am on linux (I don't like digikam or picasa) Its free - if you don't like it - no problem.
I use Bibble/ASP for the same reason, maybe there are better products for Win, but I have no problem with ASP, although is far away from being perfect.
By the way, I also use Photivo - for some pictures I get better results from raw than with ASP - save as 16bit tiff and finsh with ASP.
But I don't want to start a new discussion, I have a pragmatical approach ...

Sorry, too pragmatic to not have a win box around....
A long time ago I was hoping B5 would have decent DAM functionality, then I could possibly get rid of Windows and only have a VM for some exotic cases. But as it stands now, I fear I will have give up that hope.
i bought your book and while im not trying to plug it, i've found it very useful.
