distorted audio playback.
Hi
(asking this for a friend)
Using pro x4, when he imports a AVCHD clip and plays it back, the audio is distorted. The same clips audio is fine playing directly from the desktop, using windows media player. It also plays back fine in another video editing program.
(O.S Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit).
any help appreciated

Re: distorted audio playback.
Please get your friend to place a clip on the VS timeline and right click on it. Their either manually copy all the Properties, or take a screen grab and post it here. Then we'll know exactly what we're talking about in terms of both video and audio formats.

Thanks Guys, I will get the file properties and get back to you. At this point I can only tell you that the clip was produced using a dedicated Sony video camera. Wll post back with info shortly.

Re: distorted audio playback.
Going to go out on a limb here (as I can't get the info right now). I have some clips here that he shot with the same camera and settings as the other one, so I'll assume they have the same properties if that's any use...........

If this is of no use, I'll get the info tomorrow.

Re: distorted audio playback.
Thanks, but that is a Windows read-out which doesn't tell us the actual format of the audio -- I suspect Dolby, but it could also be some other format. So yes, get back to us with the information given in VS under Properties.

Re: distorted audio playback.
Well, those properties indicate that the video is stock standard full AVCHD, and VS X4 can certainly handle Dolby audio with no problem, so I really don't know why your friend is having the problem.
But one thing puzzles me -- or rather two. In the first photo you posted above, the frame rate is given as 50 fps, and the audio bitrate is 256 kbps. Yet in the second, the frame rate is given as 25 fps and the audio bitrate is 384 kbps. The frame rate business is perhaps explicable by the possibility that Windows reads an interleaved frame rate where 50 represents all the fields involved per second (one field = half a frame). But the difference in the audio bitrate is perhaps more puzzling. I would have been expecting 256 kbps as being normal, but 384 is still within the capacity of VS to handle.

Re: distorted audio playback.
Hi Ken
The two grabs are from different clips, but I think you're probably right about the frame rate explanation, as they are both definitely PAL footage. The only thing I thought (with my zero knowledge of VS), is if VS is somehow using the wrong audio codec, and if there might be a way to point it at the right one? (which is presumably being used by the other editing program and windows media player for it to play back properly in those).

Re: distorted audio playback.
The problem is that Dolby is Dolby, so the codec used by another program or computer will be the same licensed version from Dolby as VS uses...

Hmmm, not sure about advising him to fire a shotgun full of codecs at it when there is the possibility of those upsetting something else(?). Would VS not just use the same codecs that work with the same clip from the desktop ? (and other editing program).Abiel Corel NA wrote:To make sure that this is not a codec issue, please update or download the following..

Re: distorted audio playback.
For what it is worth, downloading and installing the DivX codec pack solved my audio problem with VideoStudio. See my post here

Thanks, I/he will try that. Does it give an option to uninstall if need be?. (add/remove, programs & features etc)StanLaurel wrote:For what it is worth, downloading and installing the DivX codec pack solved my audio problem with VideoStudio. See my post here

Re: distorted audio playback.
Yes. In Control Panel > Programs and Features, DivX is listed so you can uninstall it that way.
