Hi,

Going back to DVDs - these look OK from the link I was sent - Traxdata, a Ritek brand. Are they OK do you think?

Hi Andy

Taking a Snapshot—Settings Preferences—Capture Tab
You have a choice of Bmp or Jpeg

Converting DV to Mpeg 4 should be ok using those settings, I would not bother going any larger, its not going to improve the quality.

Playback— Stuttering -- what are the files like when you play them on your pc using your media players, try VCL Media Player.

Give the address of the video on Vimeo and we can see how it plays on our internet connections.

PS

the discs are as far as i can tell the same as my last purchase, Printable, but then i dont like the manufacturers text written over the face?

Many thanks - no I don't fancy the brand name on the DVD either.

The videos on Vimeo are at:

http://vimeo.com/bedsitpalace/londontobrighton
http://vimeo.com/bedsitpalace/poppingout
http://vimeo.com/bedsitpalace/noordinaryday
http://vimeo.com/bedsitpalace/filledtothebrim - this one was upgraded to see what it was like

I'd really appreciate your feedback.

Also, I'm in a quandry whether to go for Vimeo Plus or Pro. They're not commercial (yet, if ever) so with Pro I could still get a community pass and take part in the community. I can't see any disadvantages with Pro (othert than cost, but still not too bad) except in theory you might have to pay for more storage and plays but highly unlikely I would need that I would imagine. If you use Vimeo and have any insights, much appreciated. Many thanks, Andy F

I checked out the London - Brighton video and it stutters like mad on my connection, even after pausing and giving it a lot of buffer.
What size was the video that you uploaded?

Hi thanks:

London to Brighton - 110MB for 3mins 35 secs

Filled to the Brim - 150 MB, 4 mins 50 secs

Popping Out - 312MB, 9mins 58 secs

No Ordinary Day - 1.61GB, 51 mins 49 secs

They all seem to play OK on my PC...

Thanks, Andy F

The traxdata discs are ok, but the ritek dye can come from one of three factories, and only the ones from Japan are totally reliable. For the price they offer good value and if burning singles they are great. I have duplicators and if one crashes it can waste 7 at a time, so I prefer to use these which are more expensive but I've had hardly any failures.

By playback on your pc ok, do you mean the actual file or from the link you sent?

Many thanks. I mean the actual files - I get the stuttering on Vimeo too. London to Brighton might be the worst because I upgraded it from 720p to 1080p from 720p- I'd be grateful if anyone could check the rest. Thanks, Andy F

Hi Andy

I think it may be an internet speed issue.
It’s a little difficult to id the stuttering given that the recordings were done on the move.
I have two quality options, HD-On or HD-Off
When I view the Play/Streaming bar at the bottom of the player, much faster with HD-Off, the quality when viewing in the default screen would be similar only on full screen would you really see the difference.

How fast does the grey streaming bar progress, and if you allow it to play to the end does playback improve the second time round.
For HD Off it took approx 20 seconds playing the Car Run video.
HD On, it was always in front taking approx 2 minutes

Having said all that, when you converted the video did you use the same frames per second, your video should use 25fps, are you sure you did not use 30fps.
