Hi - I'm new to this forum and new to VideoStudio X5.
When I add pre-keyed clips (MOV files PNG coded) with alpha-channel (straight) in an VideoStudio X5 overlay track - the transparent parts show up black.
To make them transparent, I have to key-out the black with chroma key. I don't get this.
All of my transparent parts show up black, both in the video preview window as in the thumbnails of my video folder window.
Is there a setting I should apply to have the tranparent parts show up tranparent - as they should?
Thanks!
Peter

Sounds like we're talking video clips here - I may be a bit behind time but I have always understood you could not have video files with transparency in them - only still images. either way I have never been able to use a video in VideoStudio which has transparency - but I have no problem at all with still images.
I can only suggest you use the Chroma key option - which achieves the same result.

Re: Transparent parts are Black
Thanks for your quick response Brian. Yes, those are video clips with transparency and they show up just like that in for example After Effects.
For transparent video there are 3 types of Alpha Channel: Transparent (=Straight), Black and White.
Sometimes After Effects recognizes the wrong type for this (showing black in stead of straight), but then you just have to set the correct properties for that video clip by right-clicking it.
But that's on a friends computer ..... Transparent video also works fine with Camtasia and iMovie on an Apple.
So VideoStudio X5 doesn't support straight alpha channel for video - but it does for photos ?? That's hard to grasp for me, it would be more logical if there was a setting for this.
Anyone got the key here? Peter

Hi Trevor. I'm using the timeline and I've put the video with transparent background in an overlay track.
On the video preview window this shows up as a rectangular with black backround on top of the main track.

Re: Transparent parts are Black
Uncompressed avi with alpha channel (32-bits RGBA) should work, at least for me there's transparency, but MOV files could be a problem.
MotionStudio 3D 1.0; Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X7 (w/o sp1) (Download), Corel PaintShop Pro 15.2.0.12 (Download)

Re: Transparent parts are Black
Thanks Kingston. All my files with Alpha Channel all are MOVs....
Can anyone confirm (or deny) this definitely is NOT supported by VideoStudio ???
If it's not supported, maybe I should start considering another editor.
Thanks. Peter
