Is it by design that I cannot hear sound from videoclips played in "clip" mode when the volume is set to 100% ?
I can hear the sound OK when the volume is changed to anything other than 100%, like 101% or 99%.
By the way I can hear the sound OK when played in Project mode at 100%, just not in clip mode at 100%.
This is very annoying as I need to change the volume of each clip to hear it.
Product is VS-X5 digital purchase.
video clips are from Leica Dlux-5 foto camera, which is basically a panasonic inside (avcdh lite 720p)
no sound from clip mode at default 100% volume

Re: no sound from clip mode at default 100% volume
Sorry. I can't actually help. A small number of other users have reported a similar problem with earlier versions. But it does not seem to affect the great majority of users. And I don't recall a solution ever being found... Mind you, it would be nice if someone suffering the problem could give us a solution or a link to one...

Re: no sound from clip mode at default 100% volume
Thanks, Ken
I can add that a HD video clip from a canon fotocamera which is also source 1280x720, 25 frames, does play correctly the sound in clip mode (sound is also a different format, 16 bits little endian" or something on the canon clip). The Canon clip is .MOV quicktime
LEICA source clip (the one that does not play sound in 100% volume)
===========================================================
PAL double (50 fps)
MPEG Transport-Stream Files
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 50 fps
Frame-based
(HDMV-PAL), 16:9
H.264 Video
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 16043 kbps)
Audio data rate: 192 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Another anoying thing is that whilst I can get sound at playing at 101% or 99%, the playback is not smooth like when I play it in the "silent" 100% volume, if I hear the sound (e.g. sound at 101%) it is rather jerky, as my system seems to have issues with playback. I do not have any issues playing back in project mode.
PC is a self build gaming rig i7 water cooled quad core, 2x videocards ATI 5850, 6GB mem, dual solid state disks in raid 0 striping, creative x-fi soundcard, it should do the trick.

Re: no sound from clip mode at default 100% volume
Can we assume you ticked the box beside "Enable 50/60P Editing" under Settings? If not, does ticking it make any difference?

Re: no sound from clip mode at default 100% volume
As you can immagine I tried about every setting in preferences, projects, 5.1 on/off, 50/60P on/off, nothing helps appart from changing the clip volume different from the default 100 (but when I do that it induces jerky playback in clip mode). It is not limited to a particular clip, all the clips have this coming from the Leica/pana
On the subject of 50/60P on/off I am not sure if I have to use this; see below the read-out from a clip properties by VSx5 ultimate.
It says 25 frames /s, but when I press share, create video file , same as first clip I get (from the properties preview) PAL double (50 fps)....24 bits, 1280 x 720, 50 fps
Now I know the ccd of the camera is only producing 25 frames/s , but as this is coded in AVCDH Lite by the camera (I suppose with the double pal "flag" indication),
I have no clue if the clip is having 25 frames/s (with double pal flag), or the clip is 50 frames/s contend with double frames( each frame copied).
I suppose it really only is 25 frames as this would need less storage, makes more sense.
In that context do I need to set edit in 60/50p for editing AVCDH Lite source clips that is ???
The final product for HD TV viewing maybe 720p (50 frames/s) or even already upscaled, I have not decided yet.

You may want to try and update your Videostudio X5. You can download the update at http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index. ... id=4700015

Re: no sound from clip mode at default 100% volume
I always keep it updated, I think the service pack 1 was already in the release when I bought the ultimate x5, anyway I have version 15.1.0.34
My OS is win7 64 bit by the way.
I tried the AVCDH lite clips in a competitor video editing program (which is 64 bit), and there the audio runs fine.
to add to the subject: I also found another way to hear the audio in clip mode (other than putting the volume different to 100%) and that is to go to options and tick auto tone adjustment (or any other video adjestments like hue etc.. will do).
It seems vsx5 has to "forced" in altering someting (video or sound) on an AVCDH Lite clip to hear any audio in clip mode. Again playing the clip in project mode is working fine, project mode seems to force it anyway to do something correct.

Re: no sound from clip mode at default 100% volume
Maybe just a tought, on the subject of the no sound in clip mode, I suddenly realize that the source clips of the Leica are in dolby digital, they are all in mono as the Leica DLUX-5 is only mono...
Anyone else having issues with avcdh-lite clips with sound in mono?
I also have no clue if the mono sound is just put in as mono in dolby (does that exist one channel only? ) or are 2 channels L/R are just filled with same sound and then encoded into dolby by the camera?
