Hi,
Some of the movies I've been creating play OK in Windows Media Player but when you try and skip to a later part of the movie by holding and moving the toggle bar there is a 'Windows Media Player has a problem playing the movie' error. Others I've done don't have this problem. Is there something I've done wrong? All the videos are the correct length and file size. Is there a problem with the files and would it affect how they play on Vimeo? Do I need to do them again? What can I do differently?
I have been creating movies with the following properties:
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 25 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 5000 Kbps
44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps
The source files are:
PAL (25 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 16:9, 25 fps
Lower Field First
Matrox DV/DVCAM -- type 2
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
I'm using Video Studio Pro X5 trial version.
Many thanks, Andy F

Re: Windows Media Player issue with MPEG-4 movies
Frankly, I avoid playing my videos back in WMP, precisely because one of the main problems I have always had with successive versions has been exactly as you describe: trying to jump to a later part of the video almost invariably causes WMP to hang. Yet the same video plays -- and can jump ahead -- in other players I have, including PowerDVD, Nero's Blu-Ray player, and VLC. If you don't have other players, then I suggest you might want to download either VLC or Media Player Classic as they are freeware, and test your video out on them...

Re: Windows Media Player issue with MPEG-4 movies
Have you tried playing them using another media player like real Player, DIVX player, VLC or WinDVD? If the same thing happens on any of those player then the problem is in the file, if not then like what Ken Berry said the problem is with the WMP.andyfranks wrote:Hi,

Re: Windows Media Player issue with MPEG-4 movies
The movies seem to play and skip forward OK in Quicktime and Real Player so I guess they're OK. Thanks for your help, Andy F
