proper writing time

I have a dvd burner that I know is 8x however when I go to burn using Ulead it always says that it is burning at 1.6x or 2xmax. Does anyone know how to get ulead to recognize proper capabilities of burner?

thanks

have you downloaded/installed the most recent burning patches from Ulead's Support pages?

I suspect a driver problem... but it could be anything. Are you using 8X blanks?

Here's the process:

Burner's firmware reads information from the blank DVD.

Firmware reports burner's capabilities (and maybe the blank's properties) to the driver.

Driver reports capabilities to the operating system.

Operating system reports capabilities to the application (Workshop).

Oh, is that the actual speed (during burning) or the maximum speed listed before burning?

If it's the actual speed, you have a slow system, or something is wrong with it. Make sure that DMA is enabled on your hard drive(s) and on your burner. Before I turned DMA on, it was taking 40 minutes to burn a DVD. Now it takes less than 10 minutes. (I think the details for turning- on DMA are different on the different versions of Windows.)

yea, and don't forget that discs don't always burn at the same speed throughout the entire burn process. For instance (fakxe numbers) they could start off burning at 2x, and move to 4x and 8x at different spots on the disc...

Thanks for the replies ya'll. I'll be sure to give the DMA a try. Havn't checked to see if this is on or not. My computer is fairly new so I don't think that it is slow. I have had trouble finding places to download new firmware. Any suggestions.

also how does down loading those patches from ulead work?

thanks again for all the help
