DVD burning problem

Post by jimtowns »

I am trying the trial version of Videostudio pro X5, I like it and will consider the purchase,
Have had a couple of unexplained crashes with it but it does recover the project where I left off, seems to have settled down now, though and works well
But need to resolve DVD burning problem
It refuses to burn a completed video to DVD or CD
I get an error message”the program has encountered an unspecified error and has stopped functioning please contact technical support it refers to a dump file
“Vstudio_15.1.0.34_201212203_11183…DMP File” the file appears to be empty 0 KB
I am running the program on a non Internet connected PC,
Using windows XP pro (inc service packs 2 and 3)
AMD 3.01 ghZ quad core processor
With the max ram for a 32 bit system
ATI radion HD 5700 graphics card (drivers up to date)
Two DVD drives, both working ok, copying burning disks with other programs,(inc DVD’s)
Have a version of Serif video editor loaded and running ok, burning disks no problem,
Prefer the Corel X5 it’s easier to use and more up to date,
if I can resolve the problem will probably purchase the boxed version (not the download as presume this has an activation code included?)

Hi Jim

And welcome to the forums
Can you give a little more information regarding the type of video you are using.?
From the edit timelines right click the video clip and select properties, what are they, if you wish post an image as an attachment.

You are burning a DVD I assume a standard DVD not HD.
From the timeline when you Share Create Video file DVD will create a compatible Mpeg2 which can be used to burn a disc, but does this render process complete without problems.?

As I say you can use this file to burn your disc, Start a new project, then Share create Disc—Add media – using the video file created above.

From the burner module, when you get to the last window you can create a Disc Image or DVD Folder, these files will have the same content as the disc including the menu structure, are you able to create these without problems.
I use VLC Media player to play the iso.

Video Studio provides an Image burner to burn these to disc.

Go back to your original project, open in the edit timeline and try Share Create Disc, from the last page choose the ISO option, this time the process will be longer as the project is converted to Mpeg2 before burning, but are you able to create the iso.

Now all that’s left is to try burning a disc.

standard DVD
So far have used wmv and mpeg video files (not mixed in one project) various file sizes and resolution from different sources, use some video from micro cameras, have had to convert these to format recognised by VideoStudio usually wmv,(they are AVI but not recognised think its a codec problem,)
As soon as I hit “create disc” and select anything from the drop down menu the program displays the error message and freezes, regardless of whether there is any project on the time line or not, can’t get any further than that,
I have to shut it down with windows task manager,

The only way have been able to burn a DVD is to save it to PC file put it into my old Serif video editor and burn it from there,
By the way, I have uninstalled and re installed the program, just in case but its just the same

Hi Jim

Can I just clarify that the program crashes before the burner module opens

So after starting Video Studio from the “Start Menu” or desktop icon
You immediately do Share -- Create Disc –DVD and the program crashes.?

Try updating Direct X
Download and manually install this version.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... px?id=8109

1 / Download file
2 / Run to extract contents to a new folder on the desktop
3 / run DXSETUP.exe

Quick Time
Do you have Quick Time installed, some new versions do cause some crash problems. Uninstall QT Player and install version 7.5.5
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL26

Can you please Update your profile to include your full pc specification

The program does crash before burner module opens
Start from desktop icon, Share/create disc/ DVD or any other option in the drop down menu causes crash,
Direct X updated, from your link, no difference
Do have latest Quick time installed,

Will check pc spec

Have just downloaded an alternative video editor trial,
It burns DVDs no problem,
Also it recognises all my video files without conversion,
Down side, it doesn’t have the range of titling and video effects that Video Studio has,

Beginning to think Video Studio is all flashy looks, but is short on basic functionality and is not very flexible,

All I want is something that works without all the messing about!

Hi Jim

Well for most it does work without problems, and will indeed burn a DVD without converting the file, providing the file is a compliant Mpeg2.
That’s when you are able to open the burner module????

Very strange that the program crashes when you haven’t actually added any files.
Has Share Create Disc always crashed the program, or have you managed to open the burner module at any time?

Try this--Close Video Studio
Go to:-
C:\Documents and Settings\User Name \Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\15.0

Re-name this folder to “15.0 copy”
Restart Video Studio, a new 15 folder will be created.

------------------------
Otherwise….
Download another version of the trial X5 and re-install the program, just in case the original is corrupt.
First delete/clean the temp folder content, Type %temp% into Start-Run to open this folder
When you install you have to be logged in as“Administer”

Share create disc has always crashed the program, have never been able to open burner module

Have reloaded the program before, but have done it again
Couldn’t completely clean the Temp folder message that?
“perflibdata_11c” was in use, but cleaned everything else
also renamed”15.0” when reloaded

no difference just the same problem as before,

The files that I mentioned are not recognised at all and can’t be applied to the time line unless converted, I can then add them to time line to work on without problems,
I have had problem’s with these files before, usually with less capable video handling software, although they are AVI files, that’s why I was concerned about the programs basic file handling capabilities,

Am sure these file don’t cause problem as it also occurs when the time line is empty,

Hi Jim
I really do not know what is happening here
When you re-installed did you download the trial again. :?:

I did a search of the Corel Knowledge Base and found some info.

There is an issue regarding Error in VXCODER.DLL

I don’t know which browser you use

Just going off the subject a bit. Because of my rural location I have always had problems with the larger downloads. Pinnacle took 8 hours and was faulty.
Now I take the risk and buy the boxed versions. Having the disks means that I can repair any faulty software. It costs more but I think it is worth the extra.
Just a thought.

Have just downloaded the trial again, and re installed,
No improvement does just the same,
Was going to get the boxed set, Amazon same price as download
But would it be any better? I can transfer saved video to my old Serif program and burn it from there, tried that with good results, but if I am paying for the full program I want it fully functioning, is it worth the risk? not sure,
Down loaded a free edit suite, not bad, bit basic very easy to use and appears to have good support from developers, (unlike Coral who want you to pay for support!)
Might well use that in conjunction with newer version of Serif program, can get for £20,
Thanks for all your help, but feel for me Video Studio is not worth all the grief!!

Did you get the access serial number included with the boxed set, or did you still have to activate via internet?

The serial number came with the DVDs (Ultimate - DVD of SVx5 and a DVD of the extra programs) They loaded into a new computer (see spec) and VS has run OK from the second install. I have created and burnt two DVDs to date, both were small and I made a video file of each before burning two disks each through the VS Share process. The serial number is now stuck inside the DVD case!
I did get a corruption in the early days so I printed off the instructions from the Knowledgebase about uninstalling VS. This is a complicated process involving clearing the registers, so I took the whole lot to my Dealer and let him do the hard work. I reasoned that if he messed it up he could rebuild it. I had a similar experience with Pinnacle Studio and It was after that I changed to VideoStudio on his advice. Actually having the disks, which I now know are good, I can rebuild VS as many times as I need. It is a comforting thought.

You will note that I am using Win 7 (64 bit) with 8 Gig of memory plus newer video and sound cards. Is it worth checking the ability of your computer to run VSx5 against the specification. My "new" PC was specked from the specification for Pinnacle Studio 15 and my Dealer built me a PC which had a better performance than the required minimum. Unfortunately software suppliers provide the latest versions of their programs to work with the latest spec of PC. Example - Corel supply the list of their Programs that will run under Win 8. SVx4 is not one of them.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Hi Jim

The Trial Version is fully functioning, so the same as the purchased version.
That’s if Fully Functioning and your pc go together.

I do not see any point in purchasing the full version if the trial does not work on your computer. Either on disc or Download.
Unfortunately I cannot think it is the installation file error having tried another download, but a conflict/problem with your PC.

Certainly I have never heard of this problem before.
The trial period will run out so you wont be able to run the program, then you cannot test video studio.

Do you have access to another computer where you can try the installation files.?

When you install the program you are given a serial number that you insert during the installation. Either on the Box or provided by e-mail
When the program runs you can register the software, creating an account on the Corel Site.
Further help/Tutorials and downloads will become available

Installation…….

The point I am making when I suggest to go for the boxed version is that with poor broadband, as I have, errors do occur in the download. When I downloaded VSx5 it took 3 hours. It worked OK which Studio didn't but there is room for errors to be made. I would always get the boxed version in preference to a download. It is a different matter for those who live in fibre optic areas.

The BT guys tell me that they may start slinging fibre optic cables from our poles one day.

Hi Terfyn

I understand your reasoning, but if the download file is ok and Jim is able to use it on another computer then the problem is clearly with his pc.
Would you fork out the money to purchase the box version knowing that in all probability he will have the same problem.

Unfortunately time is running out for the trial version.

I don’t have a solution except re-installing the operating system, but that is a big ask.

Jim how long has the trial version to run?

I have VSpro 4 on MSW XP Pro Ver. 5.1.2600 SP 3 Build 2600. HP Media Center PC. I gave up trying to burn a DVD or CD through VS4 a while ago. I did find that, for some reason, it will burn to a memory stick. Then, I burn it to a DVD or CD from the stick. Takes a little under a couple hours from start to finish but, at least I "git R done". I had thought that upgrading to the latest ver of VS would maybe solve the problem but right now anyway that doesn't seem to be the case.
