DVD MovieFactory 7 Pro - Import mp4 problem
It says above "File Format Support - DVD MovieFactory 7 Import: Video: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MP4" MovieFactory 7 does NOT import mp4 files. When we try to open any mp4 file into Movie Factory 7 I get the error message: "Unable to open file [file name] File format mismatch". We have searched for a solution online and no one seems to have one except to covert the files. We have hundreds of movies mostly of mp4s and must make DVDs of them for customers. We are using the Trial Version and will buy the product if we can transfer these files. We have contacted Corel support but have yet to receive a reply.

Re: DVD MovieFactory 7 Pro - Import mp4 problem
The codecs you listed work with the corresponding products listed with them. We are unable, however, to use these codecs with MovieFactory 7. Is it possible to do this?

Do you have Quicktime on your PC Weemus - that is required for the playing of mp4 files in Corel products.

Re: DVD MovieFactory 7 Pro - Import mp4 problem
I know this is an old thread but since I'm faced with the same problem (doesn't support MP4), and I do have the codecs listed with Quicktime too and it still doesn't work...
I would like to know if this something that can fixed in Movie Factory 8, or I need to find another tool for creating DVD's and editing them, if using MP4 as source?
I could just grab them and write them to a DVD using default Windows but I want to edit the movies ... i.e. remove frames (when I decide to shoot my feet).
I have been converting them to a AVI and editing them and merging movies together but its tedious converting all the movies.
I really wish Movie Factory would support MP4 as advertised as it is such a great product otherwise.

I don't see MP4 listed as a supported format for that product.

Re: DVD MovieFactory 7 Pro - Import mp4 problem
ok thanks .... I didn't realize that mp4 and MPEG-4 were the same. I will likely upgrade.
Note: I did end up converting my video to wmv to edit them but found I couldn't save (export) to wmv ... had to be mpg. Is that correct?
One other interesting fact I found looking for alternatives is that Corel products are criticized for not having a support forum. Obviously that is not true but perhaps Corel needs to include something on their web page or help for directing folks to this forum because it is very helpful.

Re: DVD MovieFactory 7 Pro - Import mp4 problem
not quite sure why you couldn't export to wmv in MF7 - I do not use that programme myself but the tech specs on the Corel website say :--
Export:
Video: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DV AVI, AVI, WMV-HD, WMV-SD, ASF, QuickTime® (MOV, QT), H.264
Audio: CDA, LPCM, MPEG Audio (MPA), Dolby Digital® Stereo, WAV, WMA, Ogg Vorbis Audio (OGG), MP3
Image: BMP, JPG
Disc: Blu-ray (BDAV, BDMV), DVD (DVD-Video, DVD+VR, DVD-VR), VCD, SVCD
Media: CD-R/CD-RW/DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+RW, DVD+R/-R(Single/Double Layer)/DVD-RAM, BD-R/RE
OR
if you meant VideoStudio the output list reads :--
Supported output formats**
Video: AVI, MPEG-2, AVCHD, MPEG-4, H.264, BDMV, HDV, QuickTime, RealVideo, Windows Media Format, 3GPP, 3GPP2, WebM
Audio: Dolby Digital Stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1, MPA, M4A, WAV, QuickTime, Windows Media Audio, Ogg Vorbis
Images: BMP, JPG
Disc: DVD (DVD-Video/DVD-VR/AVCHD), Blu-ray Disc™ (BDMV)
Media: CD-R/RW DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R Dual Layer, DVD+R Double Layer, BD-R/RE
which doesn't actually say wmv - BUT - you can use WebM OR my version of X6 has a number of .wmv output options - (see below) OR by going "Create Video File >> Custom" you can make a customised .wmv output.
see second image below for just one of the many wmv outputs available under the custom option.

Re: DVD MovieFactory 7 Pro - Import mp4 problem
That too has always been covered on the Corel website. If you look at the Corel.com home page, one of the tabs along the top says Support, and if you click on that, among other things is a link for Corel Communities. When you open that, there are links to this forum, but also other Corel communities covering other groups of Corel products such as CorelDRAW etc.One other interesting fact I found looking for alternatives is that Corel products are criticized for not having a support forum. Obviously that is not true but perhaps Corel needs to include something on their web page or help for directing folks to this forum because it is very helpful.

Re: DVD MovieFactory 7 Pro - Import mp4 problem
I just bought this product in February. I'm getting this file type mismatch error message. I installed Quicktime. It didn't help. How do I get it to open an mp4 file created in Camtasia?

Re: DVD MovieFactory 7 Pro - Import mp4 problem
Hi
Did you purchase the software from Corel, I did not think they were selling this product any more.
There were some patches for the program, have you installed those
http://corel.force.com/support/articles ... nd-Updates
Notice the release dates for those patches.
QuickTime try version 7.5.5 as that version would have been available at the time the program was being supported.
Try renaming the Mp4 files to use Mov extension.
DVD Movie Factory may not be compatible using windows 7, try running the program in XP compatibility mode ?
(Post edited, you need service pack 2 for W7 compatibility)
Can you update your forums profile to include your PC specifications, thanks.
When using Camtasia create the MP4 in standard sizes 1280 x 720, non standard frame sizes may cause problems.
You do not give any details of your video files properties?
