VideoStudioPro X3 stops working on saving as mpeg-4
My HP had win 7 pro issues and then blew its motherboard so i replaced it. I reloaded Video Studio Pro X3 which worked fine until I tried to save the edited video as a mpeg-4 HD (to be converted into an AVI later). It starts saving and then shut downs informing me to contact Corel and give them the data dump to figure out what the problem is. of course, i can not contact Corel who directed me to this forum. I did download and install the critical update but the same error occurs. Can some one help me solve this problem?
Of course I was going to include the file but despite giving me the address, I can not find it.

Re: VideoStudioPro X3 stops working on saving as mpeg-4
Welcome to the forums!
Can you tell us some more about the format of your *original* video, please? Right click on one of the clips either in the timeline or in the library window, and copy ALL its Properties here, please. Have you tried converting the video to AVCHD, which is of course another version of high def mpeg-4 (using the h.264 codec).
And is there are particular reason you will later be converting the new video to .avi (I assume either DivX or XVid) or why you are not rendering to that format from the start?

Re: VideoStudioPro X3 stops working on saving as mpeg-4
The original footage was made on a Panasonic HQ video camera about 15 years ago. I transferred it from VHS to DVD so i could load it into the computer for conversion and editing. I successfully did this before on the HP computer a year ago and did not encounter this problem until i rebuilt the computer. When the HP died, all my video files were saved on the HD which had to be erased to reload the operating system.
I don't recall seeing the option to save the video as AVCHD but I will certainly give that a try. I saved everything as the MPEG-4 HQ since I never heard of the other options. I am converting the MPEGS to AVI to shorten the upload time to youtube...

Re: VideoStudioPro X3 stops working on saving as mpeg-4
I just tried to save under the AVCHD. I get the same error message and videostudio shuts down after i click close. I don't save it directly to AVI because I do not see the option in VSP3, but I prefer to have the mpegs in case I have to convert it to something else later on.

I have also deleted the program and reinstalled it in addition to downloading the three updates it says were availbe for sound and so forth. I am still getting that error message and the program shuts down.

Re: VideoStudioPro X3 stops working on saving as mpeg-4
Thanks for that extra information, but you still have not told us the Properties of your original video If you could right click on one of the clips in the VS timeline and copy all the Properties here, it would help. You say you burned the original VHS to DVD, and if it were a video DVD then the video would be in mpeg-2 format. But it is also possible you just stored the video in its original captured format -- which might not have been mpeg-2 -- using the DVD as a data storage disc.
As for converting to AVI, you don't say which type of AVI you want, though I assume it will be something like DivX or XVid, which is of course highly compressed mpeg-4 though uses the .avi wrapper extension. (There are over 800 different formats which call themselves .avi, apart from "true" or uncompressed avi which is huge at around 65 GB per hour of video.)
Well VS can certainly create AVI. To find it, you go to Share > Create Video File > Custom. In the screen which appears -- see image below -- the default format shown is MPEG. But you just click on the downward arrow beside it and choose "Microsoft AVI files (*.avi)". Then click on the Options button. A new dialogue box will appear. Open the AVI tab. In the top window labelled Compression, if you click on the downward arrow, you will be given a list of avi codecs to choose from, including the DivX version which came with X3. XVid will only be there if you have installed it on your computer, but you can easily find it with a Google search.

Re: VideoStudioPro X3 stops working on saving as mpeg-4
I did not know the formats and technical data, video studio worked fine until the OS failed now it won't save as if the product were a trial version. The programs loads the videos, runs it, allows editing but for some reason just will not allow me to save the edited material. It worked before... This is the information about the video footage I got from the properties as displayed on the video studio:
File
format: NTSC DVD
sixe: 2,609,908 KB
Duration: 4506.507 Seconds
Video
type: MPEG-2 Video, Upper Field First
frames: 135,060 frames
attributes: 24 bits, 720x480, 4:3
frame rate: 29.970 frames/sec
data rate: variable bit rate (Max. 6124 Kbps)
Audio
type: Dolby Digital Audio
samples: 216,312,312 samples
attributes: 48000 Hz
layer: none
bit rate: 256 kbp
I hope this gives some solution I am not seeing, but then I don't have much knowledge on software.

Re: VideoStudioPro X3 stops working on saving as mpeg-4
This may be a long shot and since it appears that you reinstall your Windows OS, this can be an issue with codecs. The codecs that was on your old system may not be present on your current one. So you may need to install that as well.
Here are some of the codecs that you may want to install.
RealPlayer: http://www.real.com/
DivX: http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus/codec-pack
XviD: http://downloads.xvid.org/downloads/xvidcore-1.3.2.zip
Windows Media Player: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... dia-player or just download the Windows Encoder at http://www.microsoft.com/expression/pro ... rview.aspx
QuickTime: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Direct X: http://on-msn.com/aLrk0j (WinXP)
Direct X: http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/window ... tx-11.aspx
Can you also check the version/build number of your VS X3 by going to Corel Guide then click on the two (2) gears that you'll at the upper right corner then select "ABOUT COREL VIDEOSTUDIO X4"? This will allow us to know if you have downloaded and install all the Service packs.

Re: VideoStudioPro X3 stops working on saving as mpeg-4
I was thinking the codec may have been the problem. When the computer automatically downloaded an update on the netframe, it was corrupt and ruined the OS installed by HP. I chose not to update those specific files with auto update... that could have been the problem. I am updating the other codecs anyway to see if this solves the problem. I will give an update.

Re: VideoStudioPro X3 stops working on saving as mpeg-4
It is working now, it was either the microsoft Direct X update or the Xvid update that did it. I was hoping it was something that simple.. I just would not have guessed the codec names... thank you.
Spoke too soon. video I uploaded from a handicam disk worked fine and saved as wanted. The original videos are still causing the program to shut down... I even tried to load another video from the same handicam disk... is it possible loading all those codec files could have screwed it up although I have seen an indication that a codec is still missing.
Now something strange has happened, while it still will not save, what little is saved appears with a QUICKTIME logo....

Re: VideoStudioPro X3 stops working on saving as mpeg-4
I removed some of the codec, one said it may cause a conflict. Then I found the codec the software uses Cinepak by Radius and installed it. I then uninstalled the software and reloaded it. It started to actually save the edit but was taking far longer than it did previously. I aborted and tried again and the software went back to refusing to save and shutting down. I uninstalled and tried to reinstall again but now the installing software seizes up on the configuring smartsound quicktrack 5 portion. I can not even get the software to install now. What is going on???

Well Yes
Try re-installing QuickTime using

Re: VideoStudioPro X3 stops working on saving as mpeg-4
i reinstalled apple. Restarted the computer. The software through my error created a video file of the whole video, not the portion i wanted. It took 3.5 hours and then when finished, the program experienced the same problem and shut down. The next day, I downloaded the updates and tried again to edit the video. When saving, the program shuts down. The site says the program is compatible with windows 7.. something is very wrong and reinstalling the codecs or the software is not helping.

I give up on VSP3... I am just going to order #5 now that it dropped in price.

Re: VideoStudioPro X3 stops working on saving as mpeg-4
Hi
Which codecs are you referring to, the ones Abiel showed or have you installed others.
Video studio needs Windows Media for some of the samples it uses.
It needs Quicktime to use Mov and Mpeg4 types, some problems for some users hence the recommendation to install the earlier version.
Direct X is installed on the pc anyway.
Div X -- Xvid and Real Player only if you use these formats.
Trial X5 to see if it is more stable.
The video properties you provided on Wed Dec 05, 2012 2:14 am look like standard DVD type and shouldn’t be causing problems.
What are you trying to create
if a DVD then render Share Create Video File -- Same as First Video
Does that complete without problems.
Have you used any other video types in your project as well as the NTSC DVD Mpeg2 file.
