VideoStudio x4 Tutorial: Effects from main to overlay tracks

I just completed a video tutorial showing how to do effects from the main video track to the overlay tracks, and back to the main video track. I put the video on YouTube, which you can find here:

In creating this tutorial, I used three video tracks that were synchronized. I don't discuss synchronization in the tutorial, since I discussed how to sync tracks in an earlier tutorial. In any event, having the tracks synchronous is not a requirement to do effects among the video tracks. There could easily be instances where synchronization is not required. With the technique in this tutorial, you can use any effect to transition from one video track to another. And it's not hard -- hope you enjoy it.

Excellent tutorial, Corel should employ you as their Tutorial Editor

I like and understand the concept of splitting audio to reduce the click that you sometimes create.

The transition effect is very good, I guess you have done a lot of overlay work to produce that effect.
There is another way that you could try and I would be interested in the difference is any with the final render.

The method uses a transparent clip, it may be this that shows, I can see that your approach will be seamless after render. I do not use two camera editing so only test short samples on the pc and never output to disc or YouTube.

Anyway try this…………..
Drag a color clip from the library to the overlay track, double click the clip to open the options panel.
Edit tab - set the duration to say 2 seconds.
Attributes tab – Mask and Chroma Key set the Transparency to 99% (top left box)
Drag the clip to the colour library as a copy, rename the clip to read “Transparency”, this can now be used over and over again.

Now simply drag this “colour transparency” from the library over the end of your clips in the overlay track.

I haven't tried that technique, Trevor, but it sounds like it should work for a smooth crossfade. However, it won't work for other effects, and the technique I show in the tutorial works for any effect. Still, I like what you describe and will try it out.

Ken, I could find the Tutorial forum, but it had no button to begin a new thread. That's why I posted this tutorial announcement in the main VS forum.

And both Ken and Trevor... thanks for the nice comments! I would *love* to do tutorials officially for Corel, and will definitely post more when I come up with worthy topics.

For some reason, the button that allows me to add an active link is missing. I have the feeling that manually typing in the HTML commands is not doing the trick. You can still paste the URL into your browser to go to the tutorial.

Ken, that "New Topic" button is missing for me here in the Tutorial forum. It is available in the VideoStudio forum, and all the other HTML stuff works there. That's why the link to my tutorial worked... I initially posted it in the main VideoStudio forum, then you moved it here. However, I've tried both Firefox and IE, and neither shows the "New Topic" button here in the Tutorial forum, nor do they have HTML formatting buttons. In the main VideoStudio forum, all works well. Strange indeed.

Edit: All has been fixed and is now well... at least regarding me being able to add new topics and posting active links.
