How to open a new empty page in CMYK mode?

Post by Levs »

Hello,
I need to open a new empty page in CMYK as we can do by Photoshop. Splitting the finished image (work) to CMYK does not help me for printing purposes, because the print office asks the work to be printed in CMYK.

Does anyone can help me please? Or, is this not possible with PI XL ?
Thanks.

As far as I know you can only split a given image to CMYK. Do you know what CMYK stands for? These are the 3 colors plus black that any printed image is made of. Do you want to paint your image separately for every color channel? Don't think so.

PI XL does not have the open page to CMYK Profile; it opens all images to sRGB the industry standard. The software was designed for creating images for the WEB more than for printing. There is no true Profile Feature in PI.

The only method for Proofing is to use the Color Management feature to change to a mode that proofs your document with an outcome similar to the monitor or printer you would use to view the final output. Working on the Split CMYK is difficult at best.

Almost all of my Print work is done in Ulead, and all of my profile and printing work are done in Photoshop.

I assume you have tried the following: After creating you image and after saving a copy as backup to file, then go to save the document again.

When finished creating your image, you can convert you’re the image file to a CMYK split document. This document is not like the single page CMYK that Photoshop creates. Therefore, some Printing Houses will not accept the Split CMYK, or multiple document format, as apposed to the Single document format Photoshop uses.

For PI XL;
To create a Split CMYK document, do the following: Go the Command Menu Item named Format, on the Menu Item List select Data Type, on the Menu Item List select Split to CMYK. You image will be split into four separations. These images must be saved and kept together to recombine them later to produce a CMYK image.

For PI 10:
To create a Split CMYK document, do the following: Go the Command Menu Item named Adjust, on the Menu Item List select Convert Data Type, on the Menu Item List select Split to CMYK. You image will be split into four separations. These images must be saved and kept together to recombine them later to produce a CMYK image.

If you have both programs and want to work on an Image file between both programs this feature is possible. In PI change the PSD feature to open and save a PSD document in Layers. This will allow you to create an image file in Photoshop and then open it in PI, you can then move back and forth between the two Programs to accomplish the desired results. A Little tweaking is necessary, but I have done this for years.

Otherwise I would suggest you create the document in PI and then when finished import the results into Photoshop make the necessary Profile changes, convert to CMYK.

For those not in the Know!

CMYK = Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, Ink set profile used primarily for printing.

Thank you.

Dear friends, thank you very much for your replying, that's very kind of you. I will study on all what you have explained. If PI doesn't open an empty CMYK, there is nothing to do but try all above. Thanks again.

"Split to CMYK"

You can only apply "Split to CMYK" for True Color images so make sure that you have one before you give this feature a try!

Cool Keenart! I'm learning a lot from you 8)
