Corel software can create proper tif images that work within the ProDAD RotoPen tool, as long as you use Corel's PhotoPaint, version X6.2. That leaves me out. My software won't create one.
This is a link to only 1 of the posts where "Bob" attached an image that he created for you to download and try in RotoPen.

This link is to another post by "Bob" where he used a PNG image that works in RotoPen as an image.

Here's a link to a video another user created showing the steps he used to create one.

Please, will someone in this forum try to create one themselves and give me feedback on your success.
After you calm down from celebatiing this wonderful Christmas holiday, maybe you can try to re-create a tif image that works for you in the RotoPen tool, and hopefully attach a short video of your success, includnng the steps you use with whatever COREL PRODUCT you used to create that TIF image.
I want to hear from someone here on this forum that it worked for them as well as it did for the gentleman "Bob" who accomplished it on the CorelDraw forum. It should conclude this multi-page topic -- except for people like me who won't spend up to $700.00 (US) to buy Corel's latest money-maker! But, I'd still like to see if any one of you can do it.
That was the purpose of this entire topic.
Merry Christmas, everyone!

Re: Transparent tif's suitable for ProDAD (FX)- How?
I know it is an old post but it is a topic which is still current today (some 6 years later) with ROTOPEN and PaintShop Pro.
I wanted to use my own images as symbols within RotoPen in VideoStudio using PSP and had the same problem in that transparency seemed to be impossible using the above combinations!
However, I did a little playing with PSP and I have a working solution which I post here in case anyone else finds this post and wants a conclusive answer;
1. Use PSP to create your image.
2. Select the bits you want to be transparent (I used magic wand for initial selection and Shift+Click to add more selections if needed).
3. Once all bits you want to be transparent are selected, use the "Selections" menu to "invert selection" meaning the bits you want to display are selected.
* - Of course steps 2 & 3 could be "Select only the parts of the image which you want to display in RotoPen"
4. Again using the "Selections" menu, choose "Load/Save selection" and the option "Save selection to Alpha Channel" - use default for the name or call it anything you like and click save!
5. Your image selection is now stored in the alpha channel (which rotopen uses to determing which part of the image to display).
6. Now save your image as .tif file and it should have a transparent background (only only seems to work with .tif format).
Works consistently for me with Videostudio X10 & using PSP X9

Re: Transparent tif's suitable for ProDAD (FX)- How?
Hi HKTee
And welcome to the forums.
No problems with replying to old post, I don’t think anyone from PSP actually created a transparent tif,
So thanks for that workflow which worked for me after doing a quick test.
There is another post regarding rotopen symbol animation
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64017
it appears the program uses a series of images rather than a single image.
again thanks for the input here.
