Re: Transparent tif's suitable for ProDAD (FX)- How?
Thanks Ken for the link and information.
It would seem that Corel products cannot create transparent Tiff’s
Seems odd that Corel have chosen this type with its limited use, I mean that many programs just do not support transparent Tiff’s apparently.
If they made PNG or Gif types suitable for RotoPen would help.
I wonder what other formats RotoPen should support, maybe a PM to Abiel is on the cards.

I do not think it is an operating system problem, I am using XP and experiencing the same issues as you.
I would have thought that Corel Draw would have been capable, maybe a post to that forum.

Actually, Corel (Draw and PhotoPaint) do create transparent Tiff's -- just not the kind that RotoPen uses. I created a dozen or more Xparent tif's this morning. I can paste them over jpg images and even add them into VS's "Overlay" tracks, and they work fine. I don't even have to use the "Chroma-Key" option; they load onto the preview screen already transparent. But, for some reason, RotoPen can't use them. Maybe it's time for me to find out how to contact Pro-DAD developers and ask them, but I'm afraid they'd only tell me to go spend $1,000 and buy the "A...." product -- which I will never do.

I'll have to check again, but I "think" I remember seeing that there are other formats to use. But, the dozen or so samples they present are all tif's. I've tried other formats, but they all fail just like the tif format has been doing.
I wonder what other formats RotoPen should support, maybe a PM to Abiel is on the cards.

I have a friend I've known for years and he is a regular poster on the CorelDraw forums. He's an expert with Corel (the newer versions -- mine are very old!). I wrote him a personal email yesterday, outlining the issue. He will be sending me an example of what he has done later on today to find out if he understands fully the issue. Hopefully, he may offer insight and a solution?

Solution Found!
Corel software can create proper tif images that work within the ProDAD RotoPen tool, as long as you use Corel's PhotoPaint, version X6.2. That leaves me out. My software won't create one.
This is a link to only 1 of the posts where "Bob" attached an image that he created for you to download and try in RotoPen.

This link is to another post by "Bob" where he used a PNG image that works in RotoPen as an image.

Here's a link to a video another user created showing the steps he used to create one.

Please, will someone in this forum try to create one themselves and give me feedback on your success.

the experts in the Paint Shop Pro forum may have a better idea on how to do that in PSP.

Re: Transparent tif's suitable for ProDAD (FX)- How?
Just a note of caution here. Bob's post said he made the image using Corel's PhotoPaint, not PaintShop Pro. The former has a version X6; the latter only goes up to X5 -- the current version which only a appeared a few months ago, so beta testing on a PSP X6 is still some months away. PhotoPaint has been part of the CorelDRAW package for as long as I can remember, and I started with DRAW version 1......as long as you use Corel's PaintShopPro, version X6
Moreover, the forum in which you found those posts is the parallel one for PhotoPaint...

Brian, Ken pointed out my typo in my previous post, so I corrected it. Bob used PhotoPaint ver. 6.2 to create the image, not PSP. Sorry about that.BrianCee wrote:the experts in the Paint Shop Pro forum may have a better idea on how to do that in PSP.

Again, just to be clear, Box used version *X6.2* of PhotoPaint, not *6.2* which would have made his version even older than the one you have (7.0)!Bob used PhotoPaint ver. 6.2 to create the image, not PSP

That's what I said. He has X6, you did not include the X. And as I said, without the X, the version you referred to (6.2) would have been older than your own 7.0...

Please note that I edited my original post (as I said I would) to update it per your keen observation of my typo. ha ha

Please, let's not get off track because of my typo. I'm hoping that one of you kind folks will follow-through and try to duplicate what he has done. So far, everybody on this particular forum hasn't been able to make a tif that works within the RotoPen tool. I thought I was helping by FINALLY finding out that Corel software can do it. I thought others users (like yourselves) would be interested in verifying the process, and then to let me know if it works for you, too.

Re: Transparent tif's suitable for ProDAD (FX)- How?
Are you saying that my links to those posts were to wrong forums? In my mind, it's irrelevant, since the replies all related to the single issue, no matter which forum they were posted. The subject of the issue remained the same; getting a transparent TIF image produced by any Corel product to work within the RotoPen tool (not on one of the Overlay tracks). This is the most complicated topic I've ever tried to resolve on any forum! LOL!!! And, originally, I thought it was a simple question. Boy, was I wrong! heh heh. But, it's still extremely important to me, and maybe other users as well. I'm only doing my best to find what works and how to do it so that I, and other users will know how.Ken Berry wrote:I was just trying to point out that he was reporting on PhotoPaint in the PhotoPaint forum (which was logical), not PSP in the Paint forum...
