Problems with VideoStudio 9 Upgrade

Post by adicrosta »

I currently have VideoStudio 8. For some reason when I goto install the version 9 upgrade.. it says that I need a previous version in order to perform the upgrade. I have a previous version.....version 8, but it keeps coming back with an error message saying that it can't find a previous version on my pc.

Has anyone encountered this problem? If so, is there a way to fix it? This sucks I purchased the upgrade.. and I can't use it.

I even tried leaving ver. 8 running while performing the upgrade so that it would see that I have a previous version, but an error message comes up saying that VideoStudio 9 is currently running and needs to be closed before the installation can continue. It's weird.

I also tried completely removing version 8, and reinstalling it, then
performing the upgrade.. but the same thing happens.

Can any one help me out?

Thanks in advance...

It's not weird at all, it's just that your PC/VS are thinking logically while you are, mhh, I don't know.

Leaving that aside, where did you get the version 8 from? More importantly, where did you install it on your drive? In the default directory or in a folder of your chosing? Probably the latter.

If your version 8 is legit, and not a trial version, just point the installation program to the folder where the file "setup.exe" for VS 8 is located and your upgrade will install.

If you had bothered to read the messages displayed during the install, I'm sure you would have worked this out yourself.

Good luck.

If you have the boxed version of VS8, then (theoretically) you don't need to have actually have VS 8 on the computer when upgrading to 9. All you need to do is put the original CD in one of your optical drives when VS9 installation says it needs to find an earlier version. That has certainly worked for me with various Ulead product upgrades in the past.

Problem Resolved

Post by adicrosta »

Hey heinz-oz or should I say smart ***, I'm a tech, I work for a software company supporting all kinds of pc's, I know the logics, and I know how to install and remove software. That Aside, I got a response from VideoStudio's Technical support. By the way, I bought the download version of VS8 as well as the VS Upgrade 9, and was using the purchased version not the Trial. Well here's there response:

We are so sorry for the inconvenience. There are some technical problems with TBYB (Try Before You Buy) program and our upgrade installers. So far, we can't resolve the problem right away; however, to make VideoStudio 8 work with VideoStudio 9 upgrade installer and install the extra components, please re-download the downloaded version (called ESD version) without TBYB by following URL.

Uninstall the current VideoStudio 8 in your system.
Download this new VS8 installer here: (Private Link - You will need to contact technical support to get your private link).

This link will expire on 2005/07/04, so please download now.

Redownload the patch, install it.

After downloading the installation files, we recommend you to make a backup of it into CD-R/RW so you could use it again for future reinstallation and troubleshooting purposes.

If you have more questions about Ulead products, please don't hesitate to contact us again. Thank you.

Best regards

If you tried to hide your "knowledge" in your first post, you did a good job of it, I hope this smart *** here never needs any support from an expert like you.

best to proceed.

How old are you? I read your post and its tone. I think adricosta got it right. If you have something constructive to say, I woud suggest you do so with a little bit of civillity. An apology is certainly not out of order.
Thanks for the information adricosta

I am looking at VS9 and have downloaded the trial version. I was about to purchase the $99 license when in searching around on my PC and I discovered a ULead directory called VideoStudio 5SE. It was emply but I realized that I had installed a legit copy of Video Studio 5 SE from a CD that was included with purchase of a ADS USB Instant DVD product from 3 years ago.

Looking at the upgrade options, it seems that VS 5SE is a qualifying product so I may be able to go the $49 upgrade route. My only issue is the pain involved in probably uninstalling the Trial VS9, installing VS5 SE and then downloading the $49 upgrade version. If i have problems I am out $49 and without VS9

I will probably call Ulead Tech Support and get the official word on how
to proceed.

Heinz-oz,

You don't need to install UVS 5 first -- you can insert the CD during the UVS 9 installation procedure to verify eligibility.
