Can I copy video clips from one project to another?

Post by maxfrost01 »

Hi,

I'm working on a project that pulls together many short clips from many much longer video files e.g. there might be less than a minute pulled from a 60 minute file then another then another etc.
I found that my computer (which is reasonably beefy) was struggling to cope with the workload so I split the project into separate project files i.e. Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.
My thinking was that once I had done all the editing I could cut and paste all the clips into a single new project file before rendering the entire thing.
But I can't work out how to do it!
Sure, I can copy and past individual clips or even a sequence of clips but on pasting they lose all the editing I've done! I just end up with a uniform bunch of unedited clips! :x

I guess the alternative is to render each project file (1, 2 and 3) separately then pull the rendered videos together into Project 4. I can then render Project 4 to give me my final 'movie'. But surely that means as I've rendered everything twice I'm suffering a quality loss?

So the question is: is there any way of copying edited video clips from one project file into another project file AND retaining all the edits?

I fear your response will not be the one I want to hear...............

Not quite sure what you did to lose all your edits - if you have three project files you can just insert the .vsp files into the timeline one after another - then render out your complete video.

When you right click over the timeline and choose "Insert Video" browse to your .vsp file and select it - when you click 'open' the whole project appears in the timeline complete with edits - does take a bit longer than just inserting a video especially if you have a lot of transitions etc - remember it will appear as one continuous track - in one video track only but complete with all your edits. then do the same for the other two sequentially in the timeline - then render your final video.

If you can't manage that then render each project out to a video file and just put them in the timeline one after the other - if all your properties are identical throughout there should be no quality loss after the second render..
