Backup VS 4&5

Post by Bogy »

Here's the issue, i'm running Win7 Ultimate and it's running SLOW, real SLOW and all sorts of funky things are starting to happen, it's been about 2 years since I performed a clean install so the time has come and I was actually planning on installing to Win8 Pro. Anyone running Win8? Any issues?
Now before I reinstall the OS what is the best way to backup VS4 & VS5 libraries? (After upgrading from VS4 to VS5 I never imported my VS4 library into VS5 because it's such a pain in the you know what). Can I just copy the "My Documents" folder to a secondary drive to backup the libraries? I'm not worried about relinking the videos, if that becomes an issue, because they are located on a NAS.

Thanks!!

Hi,

Backing up the libraries is no problem since both X4 and X5 have the facility to export and import libraries (Settings >> library manager) so providing you put the files that are created somewhere safe before you install Windows 8 so that they are not deleted or overwritten by the new install then all should be well.

The actual libraries which appear in VideoStudio are not stored in your "My Documents" folder - the actual videos and images etc. maybe but the actual pane in VS is stored in the programme files - I assume you will be saving your "My documents" folder to somewhere safe anyrate while you clean up and install Win 8 and re-install VideoStudio.

It appears that there are some problems running VideoStudio on Windows 8 so that might not be the best move for you - have a look at this topic where a user is having problems :- http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=48426

Hi

Backing up your libraries is quite straight forward using the Library Manager.

Transferring the libraries from X4 to X5 is another matter.
I think I found a workround to do this which is to copy the VS_AllMediaView.dat from X4 to X5
