Number of undos and how to tell what you've undone or redone

I have VS4 Pro. At times I have placed several enhancements on my videos like sharpen de-noise etc. However, there are times I've had to do a lot more. The problem is, if say the 3rd step of 8 was a sharpen and I haven't kept track of the number of steps I've added, I don't know how far back I have to go to undo to the 3rd step. In Photoshop there is a history list of steps I applied when enhancing photos so it's easy to know how far back I have to go back to get to it.

So is there any similar or not similar way that I can see what I have applied to a scene and location amongst the others so I don't have to undo right back till the undo is grayed out?

If you have used several filters, and unticked the box to 'replace last filter', then all the filters you apply are listed, as in the box below. They are listed in the order you apply them. Moreover, to get back to the one you want to either adjust or delete, you don't need to erase all the later ones. You simply highlight that one in the list and either go back to Customise it, or else hit the X and only that one will then be erased.

Thank you Ken

That section is one I have had trouble understanding. I've read about it more then once but, still couldn't get a handle on it.

I did not have the "repalce last filter" checked but nothing showed in the list so I did a filter and then went to another scene and checked replace and the previous scenes filter was removed. I unchecked "remove last filter" then, I went back and checked that previous scene and the filter was gone. I also went back to scene one and checked each scene after that and all filters were gone that I had already applied to them.

So, if I applied a filter to the last scene in a 10 scene video and for some reason checked the "replace Last filter" will that remove the other 9 scene's filters that I applied to them?

Form checking all my previous scenes it would seem obvious that that is the way it works however, I have the automatic save feature clicked so would the dissappearance of the filters have anything to do with automatic save - like a photoshop file when saved, the work done to the photo is saved with the file and dissappears from the history list and doen't reappear when the photo is launched again?

I assume that when you say you go to another scene, you mean that you go to another clip in the project. If so, then if I don't have 'replace last clip' ticked, I can apply several filters to any one clip and all will be listed. If I got to the last clip (or indeed any clip), tick the box and apply a filter to that clip, then want to apply another, the first filter will be removed.

If I leave the box ticked and go back to one of the clips I have applied several filters to, they will still all be listed. But if I then want to add a new filter to that clip, only the last one in the list will be replaced, not all of them.

If yours is not working like that, then I would think something is wrong with the installation.

I am not exactly sure what you mean about the automatic save. That merely saves the project file (.vsp) and does not affect the clips in the project. So if you close a project and later reopen it, the filters should still all be visible when you select a particular clip. They will only disappear -- or as in your Photoshop analogy, become embedded -- if you render that clip (or the whole project) into a new video. That new video will of course reflect what the various filters did to the original clips, but the filter box will be empty because the filters have already served their purpose.

Well, strangely enough Ken, you understood what I wrote and I understood what you wrote.

So I guess there's nothing left to say except Thank you for your help. It is appreciated.
