SOLVED!! - Flickering/Pulsing of Flash animation overlays

Post by Haskey »

I have some flash animations, which I'm using as back drops to titles, and I keep getting a flickering effect on the horizontal edges and images with in the animation.

I created the flash animations to have a size of 720X480 and 29.97 frames per second to match my NTSC AVI file. If I open the flash in a web browser it looks fine, in the videostudio preview it looks fine but when I render the AVI and view it in Windows Media player, or convert it to DVD and view it on a television, I get the flickering.

And the flickering seems to occur every second or so, mostly along the horizontal edges.

Any ideas what the problem might be? Is it my flash file? Settings when I render it? Is it a bug? Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

I have never used flash animations, so this is just a guess. But you say you 'render the AVI' so I assume the flash has an AVI extension, and you are rendering it to DVD NTSC compatible MPEG-2 format. My question is: is there any difference in the specifications of the flash and of your main video, particularly in the Field i.e. where, say, the main video is Lower Field First, whereas the flash is Upper Field First (or Frame Based?)... If so, then you might want to try making the flash totally compatible with the main video specifications.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I think maybe I wasn't too clear. Maybe 'render' wasn't the correct word?

I'm not rendering/converting the flash file using my flash editor, I'm rendering the video in videostudio which has my flash file as an overlay track. So I'm using videostudio to overlay some NTSC avi video footage with some flash files. When I go through the Share stage and create my final AVI or DVD MPG I get the flickering.

I've found the cause of the flickering. I set the frames per second on my flash movie to exactly match my video file, 29.97fps. But changing this to 30fps seems to correct the problem and remove the flickering. There must be some aliasing issues between the video and flash causing this effect.

Now I just need to find out why my videostudio keeps crashing, with swfrender, when I add a lot of flash files.
