Anyone have Videostudio Pro X4 running with windows 8
I've just upgraded to windows 8 and after reinstalling videostudio x4 it crashes when it is run - it crashes at the point where it has to display the picture in the video window. Does anyone have x4 working with windows 8?

Colin -- I don't have Win 8 so can't answer your question. But one other user is reporting a problem with VS X5 and Win 8. See http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 86#p258886

Thanks, I had seen that. I can confirm though that on my aging laptop windows 8 doesn't play video as smoothly as windows 7 which may be related to his problem.

From the lack of replies I take it X4 doesn't work with windows 8. I've tried the trial X5 and that seems to work ok so far. Has corel ever released a patch to get a previous version working?

Yes, they released a patch to get X2 working properly when Win 7 was first released. But IIRC X2 was then the current version of VS. X3 was the first version fully compatible with Win 7 but was pretty disastrous in other ways. Anyway, I wouldn't be holding my breath for a compatibility patch for X4 if X5 indeed works OK with Win 8.

It looks like VS X4 is not compatible with Windows 8, http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... patibility - of course we can always use the compatibility mode even if it's just a workaround.

In case anyone else reads this I thought I'd reply and say changing compatibility mode made no difference.
It's a shame I've only had the program 10 months if it was a kettle I could have sent it back

Perhaps it might have been better to stick to Windows 7.
Personally I stayed with Windows XP until I was forced to upgrade my computer and operating system to cope with the new software such as (in my case) Pinnacle Studio 15. Now that I am on Windows 7, I propose to stay with it until I need to upgrade again.
I suggest that you either downgrade your operating system to 7 or upgrade to VS Pro X5.
Incidentally I am running a version of Lotus Office Suite on 7. This was issued in 2000 or thereabouts. It runs but loses some features. I also have a version of OpenOffice which runs fine. So if a program does not run OK, accept that as a fact and upgrade.
One great example was the Kodak film division who were finished by the arrival of the digital camera. Those happy days when we took our films to be developed and waited with eager anticipation for the, usually lousy, pics to be returned. My Granddad was a cine enthusiast with a 16mm camera, projector and cutting block for editing - if only he could see me now!!!

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.
