DUPLICATE FRAMES
HI
I did some searching here and did not find a thread that appears to be similar to mine
I down loaded a movie from a COOLPIX AW100 camera to PRO X4, it is a *.mov file, in AVC, MPG4, 29.97 frames/sec format.
When I ran it, it appeared to be jumpy, so I when went frame by frame, I noticed there were duplicate frames at the points were the hesitation occurred.
I have no problems with my FZ100 clips in H246/MPG4 .
A strange thing happens when I view it in WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER, it has NO duplicate frames, and appears smooth.
Any and all help would be appreciated.
Thanks, BUG EYED.

Re: DUPLICATE FRAMES
What version of Quicktime do you have on your computer? The version which came with X4 (7.5.5?) or a more recent version?

Re: DUPLICATE FRAMES
For some reason, some users have difficulty using recent versions of QT -- yet others, including myself, do not. We have no idea why this happens, but the usual solution is to reinstall the version that came with VS.

Thanks Ken
I went back to 7.5.5, still duplicate frames in exactly the same place ?
Could it have something to do with scan, MEDIAINFO indicates progressive, X4 doesn't indicate what type of scan the file is.

Re: DUPLICATE FRAMES
With the original video in the timeline, right click it and select Properties. Does it say "Frame Based" anywhere, or Upper (or Lower) Field First?

Re: DUPLICATE FRAMES
Is the video file saved on the memory card or on the computer hard drive?
It can be a problem with the file and not the software, since VS do not have any problem opening video file of FZ100. You may want to try and test other video files that was capture using your Coolpix and see if the same thing happens. You can also give us a sample video file, so that we can test and check on our end. You can upload the video file to any cloud storage site like dropbox or google drive and just provide the link to download it here.

HI Abiel
Please see links to Google Drive, assuming I did it right.
Some thing I noticed is, the dup frames appear at exactly the same position/frame in both clips, example 7.28 and 7.29.
As already stated, the clips do not display dup. frames on other software, only on X4.
Thanks for your time, BUG EYED.

Re: DUPLICATE FRAMES
Hi BUG-EYED
Thanks…I downloaded the first sample from Google. Unable to open the second link?
I am having some problems playing/editing this video.
The video DSCN0001.MOV does have some duplicate frames in addition to the ones you identifies I saw 03-28, 04-07, 08-00, with adjacent frame.
The worst problem however is the playback, Video Studio just does not like this file.
I have tried with and without Smart Proxy
The audio shows as Mpeg4 yet MediaInfo shows AVC, not sure if this is relevant, but maybe VS is just not reading the file/codec correctly.
Run out of time, to be continued…………

Re: DUPLICATE FRAMES
A few more tests, some things I noticed.
The image you provided shows the frame rate as 29.97 yet the download file uses 30fps. not sure why this is?
Changing the Project Properties to use 30 fps made no difference in the poor playback. The duplicate frames were still there.
I played the sample using Media Player Classic which allowed me to view frame by frame, I did not see any duplicate frames.
I rendered the video to Transport Stream using similar settings as your sample.
Quality was much improved with playback acceptable, the duplicate frames were still apparent.
Corel do recommendK-Lite Codec pack, this did not seem to improve anything, in fact quality looked a little worse, but difficult to tell.
I can try a few more options to convert the video to a more editable format.
Knowing what you are intending to make would help. A DVD, HD or video for the internet.
I think your best option is to approach Corel Support and provide them with a sample of your video.
I assume Abiel Corel NA will be downloading the samples

THANKS TREVOR
I assume X5 has the same issues ?
I plan on using videos from this cam for HD videos.
I will wait a while to see if Abiel makes any comments before I make a "formal" approach to Corel support.

Re: DUPLICATE FRAMES
UPDATE
Found that if I had MS Movie Maker save as a .WMV file, the dup frames were all gone.
Then made a movie at 1920x1080, H246, with both the "unconverted" MOV file and the WMV file and watched on a "better" 47" led TV.
I could see no difference between the original MOV clip (disregarding the dup frame jumpiness) and the WMV clip with the output as m2t.
I tried both Mpg4 and m2t as output, and myself and another person found the m2t movie was better, but only slightly.
Bear in mind, I am no expert here, so I could be using some terms incorrectly.
Would still like to know whats going on here, and to also eliminate the intermediate step.

Re: DUPLICATE FRAMES
I just looked at the xxx01.mov file in VS X5 and found no duplicate files at any of the times specified in this thread.
I then used Roxio Creator 2012 (a Corel product) and looked at the same file and also found no duplicate frames.
When played in either program I did not notice any jumpiness or jerkiness, it played smoothly.
I do not trust files downloaded from youTube. I can not be sure that they are exact `duplicates`of the original files being uploaded. To me uploading to websites such as Up4Down.com or 4Shared.com are better suited for keeping the original files intact

Re: DUPLICATE FRAMES
Using digital cameras as `pseudo-camcorders` is a bad idea. People are having all sorts of problems especially when using the mov format in video editing programs.BUG-EYED wrote:THANKS TREVOR
