How to turn off PSPX5 Corel Guide

Post by Dizzie »

How do I turn off the window that opens every time I open PSPX5 that says, "You must sign in to use the Corel Guide". Register? Register to the guide website?
I haven't seen the Corel Guide since I closed it the first time I opened the program nor do I want to.

Thanks for any help!

First, you have to register the product or the guide will keep showing up.

Once registered it should only show up every third time you open the program. At some point you'll see a small check box that lets you turn off the Corel Guide on the first page.

Otherwise, there is no way to turn it off. That checkbox was actually added after the initial release of the product so turning off the Corel Guide wasn't even originally an option.

Until that check box appears allowing you to prevent it from happening again. It should, operative word being "should", happen after the 9th or 12 startup provided you are connected to the internet so that it can download the latest update to the Corel Guide page.

Ah!, for those poor sods like us, who don't risk their work computers being connected to the internet, we will have to put up with it until we buy an Adobe product.

When will software companies realize that not everyone is connected to the internet?

Close PSP. Open REGEDIT.exe in Windows Xp/7 -

go to HKCU\Software\Corel\Paint Shop Pro\ ...your version {X4/X5}

look for -
- PspRunOnce - and set to 1 (pspX4)
- WelcomeCenter - and set to 0 (pspX5)

Hope can help. :)

Maybe a setting is duplicated in - HKLM\Software\Corel\Paint Shop Pro\... too.

I look at it more. Oh, Corel, Corel!
