Clip video

Post by juliart08 »

VideoStudio Pro X4 on a Windows7

When I insert video clips and start to edit with timeline and go to look at Clip it plays but no video (black screen). If I go to Project the video shows up. Is there something in preferences that keeps me from seeing the clips? This is rather disturbing as I don't know where to cut clips if I can't see them..

First have a look in "Preferences" - about half way down under the 'general' tab - make sure that the drop down next to "Instant Playback target" says 'Preview Window'

You may also want to update the directx on your computer.

Thanks I tried both suggestions and I still don't see video in the "Clip" mode. I hear the sound only. Any other ideas?

Hi

Can you tell us where you got the video file?
Generally problems like this relate to non-standard video, strange sizes or codecs that the editor is struggling to read. Maybe codecs you need to install.

Please provide all properties of your video clip.?
Right click the clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?

Using Alt+ PrtSc you can copy and paste the window to an image editor, save as jpeg and attach to your post
Otherwise type out as text.

It was taken with a Olympus TG-320. The video is MVI_124.MOV .

I tried the same video clip with another Video (VideoPad) editing program and it worked fine. Just won't work with VS Prox 4

I do like VS Prox 4 best even though it is not as easy as VideoPad.

Thanks for all your help

What version of Quicktime do you have on your computer? Some users -- for some unknown reason -- have difficulty with Quicktime .mov video if they have a more recent version of Quicktime than the one which came as part of Video Studio (7.55?). Reinstalling the latter version usually rectifies the problem. The downside, though, is that people with iPods then find that iTunes won't work with an old version of Quictime...

I have version 7 of Quicktime. I don't use Quicktime as I hate it. I don't have an I pad, I Tune or I phone. Can I just remove Quicktime altogether? I use Real Player, Divx, Media Player and MediaShow.

Hi juliart

Video Studio requires Quick Time to run successfully.

Please uninstall QickTime and I-Tunes if that is installed..

Then install this version of Quick Time

I tried what you suggested. To uninstall my present Quicktime and install version 7.55.90.70n 9/6/2008 7.32 mb and I still can not see the clips. Audio is there but still no video in clip mode. Can only see video in Project mode. Is there anything else we can do?
