I am running Win7 and just did a dowloaded version of X5. To install, I turned off all anti virus etc. programs and installed. The first time I open X5 it does open, but just sits there. I can't get it to do anything. When I close it (using task manager) and try to reopen it I get a message which reads: Runtime Error! Program: C\Program files... This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information. I've used a number of PSP products and have never seen anything like that. Any ideas? I'll also shoot a question to Corel but am not optimistic about an early reply (not to mention, most of my helpful info has come from this board.)
ps: Did due Diligence and looked this up on the Corel website. They suggested I had either "Relevant Knowledge" or "Premiere Opinion" on my machine, which are kind of market/spyware programs. The fix is to remove them with uninstall in control panel. Neither control panel nor Macecraft Powertools 2012 can find these programs so I kind of think that isn't it.
pps: Since I posted I have run a number of anti-virus and anti-spyware scans including Microsofts msert, AVG, Ad-Aware and Spy-bot------all have been negative. I do regularly update anti-virus and anti-spyware programs and run scans about once a week or so.
TIA

Re: X5 and Win7--Runtime Error
Okay, got it working. Received a very lengthy post from Corel (thanks, I appreciated their response....way better than a lot of companies.) I divided it into 3 sections 1)stuff I had tried 2)stuff which seemed like a lot of work and I thought "shouldn't" be the problem and 3)the grey in between. The one thing they suggested which I hadn't tried was to turn my firewall off. Not sure I thought that would help....but hey? So (in case anyone else has this problem) I: Uninstalled PSPX5 using control panel, cleaned up dead files using a cleaner and also used a registry cleaner to verify all traces were gone. Then I unplugged my internet, shut down my firewalls and set my anti-virus and anti-spyware programs to not automatically boot when the computer started (that was different, I just disabled them when I had problems installing yesterday.) Rebooted the computer, installed PSPX5 and it worked fine. Reversed the steps and it continues to work. So whether it was the firewall or only disabling the protection programs temporarily which prevented the install is anyone's guess. Glad it works now though. Appreciate the people who looked at the question.... I didn't think it would be easy to answer!
