Issue's With Share Make DVD Menu, Please Help.

Post by CANADA »

Hi Everyone,

I am using Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate. I have made a main movie - 58 second video (M2T) with chapters as a test and saved it as a .vsp.

I have also made one Special Features.vsp, two video's saved as one .vsp, and so it comes up as a separate submenu.

I am using a smart menu, and when I play it, it has a chapters title, a special features title, and also a play button for the main movie.

Here is the problem:

1) When I play the last special feature in the special features submenu it returns to the special features menu (like it should).

A) When I play the first special feature in the special features submenu, it does not return to the special features menu (like it should), it continues and plays the second special feature movie.

2) When I play the main movie it does not return to the main menu when it is finished, it continues to play all of the special features after the main movie.

I am hoping that someone here has been able to get around this issue somehow and I am hoping that they can tell me how to fix this issue when making DVD menu's.

Please if anyone can help me solve this issue, I would be most grateful. I would really appreciate any advice or help with this issue.

Thanking you in advance for your considerations. I appreciate it.

When you are in the 'Create disc' module look to the bottom left corner where you will see a row of icons - click on the one which looks like a little gear wheel.

At the bottom of the dialogue window which opens is a box with a tick in it against "Auto repeat when disc playback ends" - click to untick that box and the drop down just below will become active - change that to "back to menu" and click OK at the top of the dialogue box - now use the preview function to check the behaviour before you burn another DVD.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for your response, however I have already had that "return to menu" feature selected. It still reacts the same way as I explained above.

The program is most likely working the way it should, not being able to return to a menu if there are more video's after the main video.

That is why I am hoping someone has come up with (or found) a work around for this issue.

It is possible that this is more of a need to make a small adjustment in an .ini file.

One small command to say that when the main movie video (or first special feature video) is finished, do not proceed to the next video, instead now return to the menu.

So I am still hoping someone has found this work around that I am talking about. Which .ini file to adjust and what to say in that .ini file. Or they might have an .ini file already made.

Many thanks again Brian for your thoughts and the positive try, I appreciate it.

Canada,
could you perhaps create a "smart package" of your project and upload it to a free website (4shared.com or up4down.com) from which we could download it and see what you are actually doing.
At the moment I have a hard time trying to follow your menu structure with "chapters title", a features menu and a movie title.

As far as I know there are no "ini` files created that could be tweaked. All the info is contained in the vsp project files and I don`t know if they are readable by users or any programs.

Hi Canuck,

Thank you very much for looking into this issue for me, I appreciate it.

I tried to upload the following as attachments, however the forums would not allow me to do that.

Please find below .JPG's of the structure of my DVD Smart Scene Menu, I hope this will help you to understand just how it is set up.

There is also a Structure.zip file available if you would like to just download that and save it to your computer to view.

It has all of the below mentioned .JPG's in it for you, ok.

Just so you know this was the one that I did for AVCHD, however the DVD version was exactly the same.

Links have been removed !!!

Thanking you in advance for your considerations and help in this matter. I appreciate it.

Hi

I am a little confused as to what you are actually doing, that is are you creating a Title Menu only or are you adding Chapters to the Title menu.

Your images do however indicate that you are using/adding chapters.

The Navigation Controls only affect the Title Menus.
They do not affect the Chapter menu.

So if you set Return to Menu a Title will play and do just that.
For a chapter it will play all chapters to the end of the Title, then return to menu

Hi Trevor (aka lata),

I believe you are mistaken on this issue. Let me fill you in on some examples.

This is how my DVD Menu works when either played in my DVD\Bluray player, or in Preview in the Display (share section of the program).

1) If I play the last Chapter in the Chapter List, it WILL definitely return to the Chapter Menu, not the Main Menu.

I totally understand that if you play (an example) Chapter #3, it will continue to play through all of the Chapters until the Movie is finished.
This is how a Hollywood DVD Chapter List works and should work actually.

2) If I play the last Special Feature in the Special Features List, it WILL definitely return to the Special Features Menu, not the Main Menu.

The two issues that I am dealing with at this time are:

1) When I play the first Special Feature in the Special Features List, it DOES NOT return to the Special Features Menu.
It continues to play the second Special Feature in the Special Features List, and only after it has finished playing the second
Special Feature in the Special Features List, only after that WILL it then definitely return to the Special Features Menu.

2) When I click on Play Movie in the Main Menu, it DOES NOT return to the Main Menu when it is finished. It continues to play the
Special Features after the Main Movie is finished, and only after it has finished playing the second Special Feature in the Special Features List,
only after that WILL it then definitely return to the Main Menu.

I hope this now clears up the misunderstanding about how the smart menu's work with my structure, the way I have set it up.

Just so you know, what I am trying to accomplish is to have my DVD Menu work just like a commercial DVD Menu.

So that when you play the first Special Feature in the Special Features List, after it has finished playing the first Special Feature
in the Special Features List, to have it then return to the Special Features Menu. Instead of it continuing to play the second Special Feature
in the Special Features List, before it returns to the Special Features Menu.

When you play the Main Movie (click on Play Movie) on the DVD menu and after it has finished playing the Main Movie to have it
then return to the Main Movie Menu. Instead of it continuing to play the Special Features, before it returns to the Main Menu.

This is how a Hollywood DVD Menu works, and since Corel has called these menu's Hollywood Style Menu's, this is what is to be
expected with the end result.

If this cannot be accomplished in VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate, even though it says it should. Then it should definitely be released
as an update to the program, it should not be waited on and added to VideoStudio Pro X6 Ultimate.

This would be totally unfair to their customer base, the clients who support not only their product (VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate),
but also their company (COREL).

Many thanks though Trevor for your thoughts and the positive try, I appreciate it.

Hi ross

First the options you describe in the 1 and 2 paragraphs are as far as I can comprehend are how the system works.

I said
“So if you set Return to Menu a Title will play and do just that.
For a chapter it will play all chapters to the end of the Title, then return to menu”

I should have said
“So if you set Return to Menu a Title will play and do just that, return to last Menu used.
For a chapter it will play all chapters to the end of the Title, then return to chapter menu”

The Navigation Controls affect the Titles it does not affect the Chapters.

When you chose any chapter the disc will play all chapters to the end of that particular Title.
The Navigation Controls will then be applied, either the disc will continue playing the next Title or return to Menu.

Selecting a chapter will not play that individual chapter, it will play all remaining chapters.

Hi Trevor,

I understand, we are actually saying the exact same thing.

I had misunderstood your comments, however now that you have clarified them, we are saying the same thing.

I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Still the fact remains, that somehow I would like to accomplish what it is that I am asking for in this forum. Someone out there must have the knowledge to make this happen.

VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate is a great program with this one little flaw, as far as everything else is concerned about this program, it's great, I love it.

Maybe Abiel can reply and let us know what he thinks about this issue. I was hoping that once Canuck saw the .jpg's he would reply, however he has not replied since his last reply.

Patience is a virtue they say and I really do believe that this can be dealt with, I just need some hints from the experts who program to let us know where to look and what to write (code that is, or .ini line).

Thanks again for clarifying your comments for me Trevor, I appreciate it.

Hi Ross

One last thing of note, in your first post you referred to M2T type video files, these are of course used for HD and Bluray discs, yet the template you show is part of the DVD menu structure.

The Bluray menu has less templates to choose from although they will control the disc in the same manner.

So if you are intending to burn Bluray or Avchd then use those for your tests?

Hi Trevor,

I had received the proper information on how to move the DVD Menu's to the Bluray Menu section.

That way I was able to use that particular menu in the Bluray menu section instead of the DVD menu section.

I had mentioned this in a previous post that I had written. Quote: "Just so you know this was the one that I did for AVCHD,
however the DVD version was exactly the same".

Unfortunately, the Menu did not perform properly, so I returned the DVD Menu's to their original files and folders section in the program.

Many Thanks again for your comments Trevor, I appreciate it.

Re: Issue's With Share Make DVD Menu, Please Help.

Post by CANADA »

Hi Everyone,

First of all, just so that everyone knows I have removed the links for the .JPG's of the menu's in an above post I made.

Since I have not received any replies to solve my issue, at this point I believe that not one person has the answers to
solve this issue when using Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate, and making real Hollywood style menu's to burn to a DVD.

It is unfortunate, because I really do believe that there is someone out there who is smart enough and has the knowledge to make
this issue disapprear, and make a finished DVD made in Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate that will work like a real commercial DVD
just like the ones that you buy from the store.

I believe that all it will take is someone with the right computer knowledge to make a .ufo file that will command the finished product
to work like it should, or a way for all of us to know which .ufo files need to be changed with the right commands.

Until that special person steps forward to give us all the answer that is needed to solve the issue mentioned in this thread, I
would like to offer a temporary solution for making this happen. This will only work with DVD's, it will not work with Blu-ray Disc's, sorry.

I have found a program which does exactly what I am looking for, so now I will make my movie in Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate,
then save my movie and export it as a M2T video file (not an AVCHD-untick that), using the H.264 settings also, but using 29.97 frame rate, not 59.97.

This program makes the real Hollywood style menu's just like the ones that you buy from the store.

Even though Corel says that is what Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate does, in reality it does not do that at all. Corel needs to fix this issue
if it wants to stay competitive in the future.

The program that I am talking about is called "MPEG Video Wizard DVD 5.0.1.105 (09/2012)" made by "Womble Multimedia, Inc.".

This program can be found (downloaded) at the companies website " http://www.womble.com/download/dvd5.exe ", you can use a FREE
trial full version for 30 days to check it out yourself. It is an amazing program and works just like it says it should.

However, as I mentioned before it does not do Blu-ray Disc's, just DVD's. In reality the quality is really good, and after testing some DVD's
that were home made, I found this to be a good alternative that works like a real store bought DVD, then using Corel's Menu's and burning them to DVD.

I know that special someone is out there somewhere, and I am hoping that he or she steps forward to solve this really bad flaw with Corel VideoStudio
Pro X5 Ultimate. It would be nice to just work with one program instead of having to use two of them to make a complete and proper project.

I think that Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate is a fantastic program, except for this one really bad flaw with Corel VideoStudio
Pro X5 Ultimate and it's major problem with making real Hollywood style menu's just like the ones that you buy from the store.

As mentioned above I will continue to use Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate to do all my work to make a complete movie, then save my movie
and export it as a M2T video file (not an AVCHD). Then I will use "MPEG Video Wizard DVD 5.0.1.105 (09/2012)" made by "Womble Multimedia, Inc.", to make
my final DVD, so that my DVD Menu works like a real HOLLYWOOD DVD, when played in either a Blu-ray or normal DVD player.

Oh and by the way, if any of you out there are wondering. The answer is yes, after 3 days of testing and finally realizing that this program really does make
real professional looking Hollywood style DVD Menu's, I finally bought the DVD Authoring program "MPEG Video Wizard DVD 5.0.1.105 (09/2012)" made by
"Womble Multimedia, Inc.".

My hope is that I have been of some real help to all of those out there that want a real professional looking Hollywood style DVD Menu on their final project DVD's.

Hi Ross

Thanks for the information, I will download the trial and give it a go.

I don’t suppose the program creates Disc Images, (Iso Files) I ask as you could probably create one using the shortest files you have, this would include the menu structure. You could then upload to say 4Shared allowing us to see exactly what effects you are after.

UFO files
The only program that can edit these types is Photo Impact, still available from the US site.

I do not think there is anything special between the DVD Menu UFO files and the Bluray UFO files, just that different ones are provided in the gallery, but then again why would they do that if they are compatible.

Hi Trevor,

Considering the fact that you live in England and I live in Canada, I don't believe that sending you the .ISO file will work.

Obviously, the reason being is that I formated the final DVD files in NTSC, and you are using the PAL format over there.

However, let me try to explain what the final result is that I have accomplished with this program "MPEG Video Wizard DVD
5.0.1.105 (09/2012)" made by "Womble Multimedia, Inc.".

I created a first play "Main Menu", and on this menu are the following clickable menu titles 1) "Play Movie", 2) "Chapters", and
3) Special Features". I also have the Main Title of the DVD stationed above a moving video in a frame with music playing in the
background.

The following is what happens when I put the DVD into either a Blu-ray or normal DVD player.

The DVD starts with the main DVD menu showing up right away, then you can do the following.

1) Click on Play Movie on the Main Menu and when the Main Movie finishes, it will return to the main DVD menu. It does not
continue to play any of the Special Features on the disc (like what happens in "Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate", their major flaw).

2) Click on Chapters on the Main Menu, and the Chapters Menu comes up. I can click on any chapter and when that particular
chapter is finished playing it will return to the chapters menu. It does not continue to play to the end of the main movie or any of the
Special Features on the disc after the main movie (like what happens in "Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate", their major flaw).

I set it up this way on purpose just to see how much control I can have with the DVD menu. I realize that the majority of DVD's
will continue to the end of the movie. However, in the case of a home made movie each chapter might represent a different part of a
city trip, country trip, or different subject, etc., and so in that case this feature control would be a very handy feature control to have.

3) Click on Special Features on the Main Menu and the Special Features Menu comes up. I have two Special Features available
to choose from on the Special Features Menu page (I could have as many as I would like, I just used two for the testing).

I can click on any of the Special Features on the Special Features Menu page and when that particular Special Feature is
finished playing it will return to the Special Features Menu page.

It does not continue to play to the end of the second, third or fourth, etc., Special Feature on the disc (like what happens in
"Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate", their major flaw).

I can return to the Main Menu on the DVD at any time from any Menu just by clicking on the Main Menu control button on the
DVD (which is on any menu's you make on the DVD, with the exception of the first play Main Menu of course).

All of the menu's have a moving video in a frame with music playing in the background. Chapters and Special Features
Menu's have many moving video's in a frame with music playing in the background.

Meaning that if you have ten Chapters and ten Special Features, each Chapter and each Special Feature will have a moving
video in a frame with music playing in the background.

You can set it up so that you can either click on the moving video in a frame to start playing the video or you can set it up so
that you can click on the title of that particular Chapter or Special Feature to start playing the video. Each moving video in a
frame with music playing in the background has a title of that frame underneath it (which you can call it whatever you would
like to title it).

I hope this explains for you Trevor and others of course, just how great this program is and what it can accomplish for all of
you out there who want a real professional looking Hollywood style DVD Menu on their final project DVD's.

Final Note:

It is a real shame that "Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate", has this major flaw and up to this point they have not done anything
to fix this major flaw in their program.

In other words, they have not tried to fix this issue so that when you want a real professional looking Hollywood style DVD Menu
on your final project DVD, to make it work just like "MPEG Video Wizard DVD 5.0.1.105 (09/2012)" made by "Womble Multimedia, Inc."
has done.

Again, this program can be found (downloaded) at the companies website " http://www.womble.com/download/dvd5.exe ", you can use
a FREE trial full version for 30 days to check it out yourself. It is an amazing program and works just like it says it should.

By the way Trevor, .ufo files can be opened with either note pad or word pad, you just have to remember to click "Save", and never
click "Save As". By clicking just "Save" after making changes, it will continue to save the .ufo file as a .ufo file. If you click "Save As" you
do not get the choice to save it as a .ufo file.

The problem or issue that needs to be solved by either the Corel Corporation or one of us is knowing which .ufo file needs to be
used, and what commands need to be changed within that particular .ufo file. That is the issue that needs to be solved to make
"Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate" work just like "MPEG Video Wizard DVD 5.0.1.105 (09/2012)" made by "Womble Multimedia, Inc.".

Why not upload the iso file? Not everyone lives in PAL country. I also live in Canada and am interested in exactly seeing what you are talking about.
As far as I know the VLC software player can play both NTSC and PAL. In Europe most DVD players can play both NTSC and PAL, we in North America are just far behind in that regard.
Creating Smart Package and uploading it would also allow others to play with what you are doing

BTW, what are these UFO file you keep mention. I have never come across any.
