VS x5 Screen Capture (No system sound)

Post by iRacer28 »

Hello, I just purchased the Video Studio Pro x5 today and walla already technical problems. :?
First of all, I've been using Fraps for a while now and it works 100% just fine but the quality isn't that
great. So I came to Corel and looked at the Visual Studio that's listed and thought I'd try it.

When I go to capture screen mode, it captures my racing game screen just fine but it doesn't capture the audio.
(Racing isn't racing without the sound of the beatin' and bangin' of sheet metal) So I went into the Screen Capture settings window,
and I get an error message that reads, "No system audio detected. Please make sure that this is enabled in your computer and try again."
whenever I try to enable the system audio. I tested my microphone and that works just fine. But its the system audio part I need fixed.

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium and the sound I have is VIA HD.
So I went into the Windows 7 control panel, opened up the Sound program manager, made sure all my devices were enabled,
went back into Screen Capture after retarting the program and I get the same problems.

I have viewed the other troubleshooting posts here, about this problem and they didn't seem to come up with an
answer. But one of the post was from back in June of 2012. So rather than bump and old out dated post, I thought I'd
make a new one and see if any fixes have been found since then.

Also, I updated it with X5 Service Pack 1 right after installing, but it didn't seem to fix the issue.
Has there been a fix for this yet?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi

I am using XP the option System Audio is only used for W7, but if I choose Voice - Sound Check I can select my Input Device and "HD audio rear input” which uses my system sound (Stereo Mix)

There are some issues and I am sure Corel are aware, different types of audio driver may give different problems.
But as I say I can access the sound via Sound Check?

Through the sound check, I can change it to "Microphone (VIA High Definition) or Stereo (VIA High Definition)"
Mine was set on Stereo already. The way I understand it, sound check is for setting up your microphone volume.
I don't think it applies to the system sound recording. Only the microphone recording volume.

Hi
As I said I am using XP, System Audio is only supported with W7, so I have to use the Voice—Sound Check—Input device to select Mic or Stereo Mix

I have a Lenovo W7 lap top with X5 installed, the audio records ok.
However I have other problems with the program and have to run in XP Compatibility Mode.

I did say that audio recorded ok, well after changing a few settings I have managed to simulate your error messages, so now my audio does not record, for the time being.
Changing the audio settings sometimes required a re-boot of Video Studio before I noticed the changes, eventually I managed to record system sound again. At one point recording Mic as well, not good.

I did manage to select HD Input instead of Mic from the Sound Check.
And eventually managed to get System Audio working.

To be honest I do not know what combination of Sound options I selected, nothing unusual for sure, sometimes it worked and others failed, I thought it was Windows 7 being temperamental.

I will have to re-check my settings and maybe post a few images, unfortunately the wife is using the pc at the moment, but then again does own it.

With the knowledge that it would/should work, I just kept changing options till it did work.

One thing though the Listen tab did not have “Listen to Device” selected

Having read this thread and checked all my settings many times it seems I've bought a pig in a poke. Am I really to understand that as a Windows 7 user there is no way to record audio using screen capture, other than via a microphone? It was the screen capture feature that swung my buying decision in favour of X5. To say that I am exasperated is an understatement! Why can't Corel sort this out?
Btw, I tried the suggestion in the post above but the Stereo Mix option doesn't appear when I right click.
Regards, Phil.

Hi Phil

Well yes screen capture audio does work for most, its just some users are having problems.
As my reply earlier I do not use the laptop W7 64bit for editing but generally the XP Desktop

Yesterday I tried the screen capture which worked ok first time.
I then messed with the pc audio settings and managed to corrupt the settings, some how?
At one point the Voice Sound Check allowed me to select Stereo Mix, which has to be used for XP. I do not know how I set this and cannot replicate it.
At one point managed to record both channels, Mic and Sound Mix together.

It took a while for the program to start working again, always giving the error. Eventually I managed to set them, no different to any other settings but now worked. Maybe the order i did things in?

The only thing I was changing was the defaults for Mic and Sound Mix.
I think you may have to do this in a particular order, seems strange I know.

It is now working and am sure will continue to do so till I mess with the settings again.
I took some screen shots but am sure they are the same as the Corel fix notice, I will check and maybe post anyway.

Thanks for your prompt reply Trevor - I appreciate this, especially on a Sunday. I assume that as site admin you are a Corel employee? Tell me, why do Corel (and others) put products on the market that DON'T WORK? Sorry to shout, and I know it's not your fault, but it really is aggravating!
Regards, Phil.

Hi Phil

No we are not Corel employees, members of the forum just like you and I suppose like helping users with their problems, weather is a bit poor to day, cold and grey, so maybe spending the day in-doors and on the PC for some of the time.
I prefer Video Editing so will find me on that forum rather than anywhere else.

There is one Corel Employee that frequents this forums, Abiel Corel NA. others may visit but rarely post maybe reading the Wish list for future versions.

As for the Screen Capture it has had its problems, Windows XP seems ok but then does not support the System Audio option.
Whether W7 64 bit is the issue I don’t know

I think the problem is hitting the buttons in the right order, not that I have identified which to set first.
I eventually got it working but using the same settings, why they don’t work first time I have no idea.

Keep pushing those buttons

Hi Phil

just a comment on your problem - I use Win 7 both on a laptop and on a desk top (both 64 bit) and both capture system sound without any problem at all - so it does work - the problem is that at the moment it does not work on your computer, but as Trevor is saying it may well be possible to get it working on your computer.

and like Trevor I don't get paid by any one - certainly not Corel.

and - as I am in London and it looks as though the weather I have just had is moving your way I can promise you both a very wet Sunday

I have tried this many times. It does not work.
Everything is on, in Windows 7 and all settings are correct.

The problem is in the Pro X5 screen capture settings window.
The X5 screen capture settings window will not allow me to turn it on.
It will let me turn the mic on and off but the System Audio setting will not turn on. If I turn it to on, I receive the error message
and it goes back to the off position.

Hi

One thing that is different is that your sound driver is Via whereas the info from Corel and my W7 laptop is using Realtek.

My desktop does use Via and works but this is running XP
