Ref: Forum option to 'mark this forum as read' fails.
On almost every other forum I visit, after selecting that option, the list of current posts become "greyed-out" indicating that they have "all been read." This forum doesn't seem to do what is expected. None of the topics are "greyed-out." I'm just wondering why.
Thanks!

Re: Forum option to 'mark this forum as read' fails.
It doesn't actually 'fail' - in fact it works very well. when you click the mark forums read text two things happen - first all the post markers down the left edge of the forum which are red if you have un-read posts in there turn grey indicating all posts in that topic are read.
Secondly after marking the forum as read the topics are not shown when you use the "show unread posts" option.
so although it might not work in the way you have found on some other forums - it works differently on here and does not 'Fail'

Re: Forum option to 'mark this forum as read' fails.
Thanks for replying, BrianCee!
To me, you sound a little defensive of this forum's structure. I didn't mean to offend you, so I won't pursue this topic anymore. I was merely trying to find out why the topics themselves weren't showing as having been 'read' by their appearance, like many forums do it. I prefer not having to look through 12 different icons looking for a tiny red-colored star to indicate a topic hasn't yet been read. On my 1920x1080 monitor, that's not very user-friendly for me. The feature may not be failing for how it has been setup, but I was merely saying that it failed to work as I expected, or at least hoped for. Bold text in a Topic's Title is far easier to spot, therefore 'seeing' which topics haven't been read is natural, since that's the area my eyes go to when looking at a list of topics. But, when they are ALL bold, it looks like none of them have been read. That's my point.
Where did your eyes go to first when you read this post? Was it the bold text? heh heh
Thanks again,
Let's move on.

Hi, Brian.BrianCee wrote:It doesn't actually 'fail' - in fact it works very well. when you click the mark forums read text two things happen - first all the post markers down the left edge of the forum which are red if you have un-read posts in there turn grey indicating all posts in that topic are read.

I tried again today to 'mark forums read' while I was in the Video Studio forum, and it isn't working; the unread icons stay colored red. If I go to the main "Board index" and 'mark forums read,' -- it does work (and, it also includes sub-forums). But, unless I have missed it, I find no 'mark THIS FORUM as read' while I'm in the Video Studio forum. I just thought I'd let you know. It's quite possible I'm missing something, or even expecting a different result?

I'm not absolutely sure what you mean, but just took this screen shot of the VS forum. Since there is a further sub-forum contained within the forum i.e. MF 7 SE forum relating to VS X3, there are in effect two Mark As Read buttons indicated by the two red arrows.

Re: Forum option to 'mark this forum as read' fails.
Thank you for replying.
I see now what I didn't see before. When I entered the Video Studio Forum and clearly saw (at the top) the "Mark Forums Read" thing, I figured that (even though you now mentioned there was a subforum) that "everything" in the forum I was in would be marked as "read." It seemed logical to me. It was only after your post (with the graphic) that there was a different option which needed to be clicked on. I didn't see it because it was joined at the front of a line of text. Hard to notice, unless you know what your looking for. Anyway, you showed me how to do what I have been wanting to do, so that's great! Thanks!! I still do not understand why clicking on the "Mark Forums Read" does not mark the forum as being read. That doesn't make sense to me, since I was IN the Video Studio Forum. Everything in it should have been marked as read, at least that's my thinking. No wonder it didn't work. Thanks again for explaining it!
