drawing lines

Post by wvquest »

I've downloaded the trial version of PI 10 and was trying some basic design. When I tried to create a line, it came out as an arrow and did not allow me to resize it. (In this case I was just trying to widen the line to 1/2 inch). I don't see any function for this or to change the arrow to a line. What am I missing? On another topic, I used to have PI 5 but can't find the disc to load it on a new computer. The local retailer has PI 8.5 for $30 less than the price of PI 10. Is it worth the eatra $30?

Helps to learn the basic at least. In PI you can set the attributes for any of the drawing tools.

There is a beginners workshop free of charge available here http://www.pircnet.com/

:? whether PI 10 is worth the extra $30.- over PI 8.5 is a question you will have to answer for yourself. If you only want to do basic designs, probably not. However, there are other reasons for bringing out new versions of software then being able to charge more money for them. You could probably get a legal copy of WIN 95 for next to nothing now. Would you rather have that than WIN XP? Don't think so.

Go to the ULEAD web site and compare the two feature by feature and decide based on that. By the way I have several versions, starting from PI 6 to PI XL and now PI 10. All of them have something that is not available in another.

If you can prove you purchased PI 5 you might be able to qualify for an Upgrade.

Go to http://www.ulead.com/tech/faq/custservice_faq.htm for instructions about contacting them.

If you can’t prove purchase and want to install PI 8.5 or 10 on a new computer, you would have to buy the Full. You should get the Disc, as Smartdownload is a bear, and the Disc has a lot of extras.

:D I downloaded all of my Ulead software and never had an issue with anything. All you need to do is to burn your downloaded file with all the extras downloaded if available, any patches etc to a CD, and there you go 8)

I daubt that any proof of purchase is going to help. The upgrade versions simply look for evidence on your PC. The qualifying product does not have to be installed either, just the relevant "install.exe" file location will suffice.

Thanks everyone. I'm not a novice in computer use, but am for the most part with photo editing software. PI 5 was pretty neat and fun to use, but work took priority and I set it aside a couple years ago. I've changed computers a couple times since then and thought I'd try to get back into it and have the box and guide but no disc is in the box...so that's where I'm at. Thanks Heinz, I did find the tool attribute panel. That helps alot. I don't mind paying the extra $30, but while I was browsing through some of the forums, I caught a comment by someone they wished they hadn't ungraded to 10, so I thought I'd solicit some other thoughts. Thought it wouldn't hurt to see how responsive other PI users might be as I learned the ropes as well.

Thanks again!

:D If you could look far enough back, I'm sure you'll find someone who wished he never bought PI 5

I use PI XL and PI 10 on my P4 3.0GHz, WIN XP PRO SP1 at home and on my Centrino 1.7GHZ WIN XP PRO SP2 laptop with none of the issues described here.

More often than not, people do not want to get down to learning something and blame the stupid software for not working well enough or easy enough for them. I also participate in a PI resource bulletin board and there are hundreds of people using various versions of PI with full success.

A simple graphic created with the path tool in about 15 to 20 minutes. Notice the weave pattern and how it was wrapped.

Read the PI Manual carefully and experiment in every fashion you can imagine, using all of the features PI has to offer.
